Renewing STEM Diploma Teaching

It is noted that: " STEM education is an educational method that aims to equip students with scientific knowledge associated with practical applications. From the 2024-2025 school year, there will be 3 forms of organizing STEM teaching in secondary and high schools in the city, including: Teaching science subjects according to STEM lessons; Organizing STEM experience activities; Organizing scientific and technical research activities. Teachers design STEM lessons to implement in the teaching process of subjects in the 2018 GeneralEducation program according to the approach of integrating within subjects or integrating interdisciplinary subjects".

Before this instruction from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, many teachers enthusiastically created impressive lessons using the STEM education method. Including literature , the subject considered... the most difficult to have STEM qualities.

Recently, Mr. Tran Ngoc Tuan and Mr. Lai Phat Tai (Literature teachers at Tay Thanh High School, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City) had a demonstration lesson following the STEM education orientation and left many emotions for teachers and students. The lesson integrated many activities with the following contents: Presenting research results reports; STEM product reports (in the form of informational texts, and on the topic of Vietnamese cultural heritage ).

Teacher Tran Ngoc Tuan said: "The goal of the lesson is to help students understand the characteristics of informational texts, know how to apply lesson knowledge to create a text associated with a STEM product that can be applied in daily life. In addition, students also know how to combine interdisciplinary knowledge (computer science, fine arts, physics, culture, medicine, psychology...) in learning literature. Through this lesson, students have more love and awareness to preserve the beauty of national cultural heritage".

The reporting session was divided into many activities, combining both the performance of scenes and the reporting of STEM products, such as: Report on learning about Hue Citadel, combined with the presentation of Vietnam heritage handbook products, 3D cards about Vietnam heritage, One Pillar Pagoda product models; reporting on desk calendar products, four-panel wall calendars, drawing books for children about the beauty of Vietnamese culture; Presentation of the research topic "Impact of bad news, good news"... Also in the reporting session, teachers and students were also excited by the game scene "Vietnam Shark Tank Game". In which, STEM products of Dong Ho paintings were introduced through everyday items such as conical hats, notebooks, key chains, lucky money envelopes, handbags...

Ms. Phan Thi Tam, Vice Principal of Tay Thanh High School, commented: "The teachers brought a very interesting and creative literature lesson, with many meaningful products...".
