On July 18, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly 's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment held a meeting to explain, absorb and revise a number of contents in the draft Law on Geology and Minerals, according to the National Assembly's Electronic Information Portal.
The Draft Law on Geology and Minerals was submitted to the National Assembly for its first comments at the 7th session. The majority of opinions agreed with the purpose of building the Law to fully institutionalize the Party's viewpoints, guidelines, and policies.

The development of the Law is expected to overcome the shortcomings, limitations and inadequacies of the current Mineral Law that have been summarized and evaluated, ensuring strict management, economical and effective use of minerals, transparency in controlling mineral activities and aiming at the goal of sustainable development of the geology and mineral sector.
National Assembly deputies also gave many opinions on the name, scope of the Law, its conformity with the Party's guidelines and policies; the rights and responsibilities of localities, communities, households and individuals where geological and mineral resources are exploited.
In addition, the authority to recognize mineral exploration results; mineral exploitation rights fees; mineral exploitation rights auctions; state management responsibilities for geology and minerals.
Immediately after the 7th session, the Standing Committee of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee is closely coordinating with the drafting agency and relevant agencies to research, absorb opinions, continue to clarify remaining issues, and complete the draft law.
It is expected that the Law on Geology and Minerals will be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration and decision at the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly.
At the meeting, the Standing Committee of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee and delegates focused on discussing difficulties and obstacles in implementing current regulations.
Typical examples of planning for exploration, exploitation, processing and use of minerals and national mineral reserve areas; thereby, proposing contents that need to be studied and regulated in the draft Law on Geology and Minerals related to these contents.
