Clarifying irregularities at O-Dong Truong Island Tourist Area

NDO - On March 3, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province requested relevant departments, branches and Vinh Cuu district to clarify signs of irregularities in the use of a 24-hectare land plot, construction works, and tourism business on O Island and Dong Truong Island (O Island-Dong Truong Tourist Area). These are two separate islands, considered as "bright pearls in the heart of Tri An Lake", which provide fresh water for more than 10 million people.

Specifically, Dong Nai province's functional forces reviewed and handled issues related to land, construction, business services, financial obligations, taxes and some other related issues regarding the land of O island, Dong Truong island, in Ma Da commune, Vinh An town, Vinh Cuu district.

According to the investigation of Nhan Dan Newspaper reporters, in 2000, Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee assigned the O-Dong Truong Island Tourist Area to Dong Nai Tourism Company to manage and develop eco-tourism. However, the business operation process was not effective.

In early 2017, Dong Nai Tourism Joint Stock Company and Cuong Thuan IDICO Investment and Development Joint Stock Company signed a contract to transfer assets on land at O ​​Island - Dong Truong Tourist Area.

The resort is built on Dong Truong Island.

After that, Cuong Thuan IDICO Investment and Development Joint Stock Company invested in building many projects and underground power lines from the mainland to provide tourism services on these islands.

Since then, many large-scale projects have been built to serve tourism business, including: concrete roads around the island, event restaurants, swimming pools, resorts, golf courses, tennis courts, etc.

Many constructions on O Island serve tourism business.

Responding to reporters from Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of Vinh Cuu District People's Committee Nguyen Quang Phuong said that the locality is coordinating with relevant departments and agencies to urgently inspect the compliance with legal regulations related to land and construction on O Island and Dong Truong Island.

According to Mr. Phuong, the 24-hectare land on these two islands was previously operated by Dong Nai Tourism Company for commercial services, then transferred to Cuong Thuan IDICO Investment and Development Joint Stock Company.

A 2m wide concrete road was built around Dong Truong Island.

Meanwhile, according to a leader of Dong Nai Department of Construction, the unit has never granted or advised the Provincial People's Committee to grant construction permits for the projects on the two islands of O and Dong Truong.

The issue of licensing construction works here is under the authority of the District People's Committee.

Public opinion is waiting for the early clarification of the inspection results and determination of who is responsible for the current irregularities (if any).
