Meeting with President of the National Assembly , President of the Council of State of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, afternoon of November 2, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong emphasized that Vietnam wishes to deepen and further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation with the brotherly country of Cuba in all fields, maximizing the strengths of both sides, in the context of the two countries aiming to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), which has been named by the two countries' senior leaders as the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year.
At the meeting, President Luong Cuong warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez to return to Vietnam for a working visit, just two months after the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam; highly appreciated the significance of the visit and the results of the talks between National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez the same morning; and believed that the visit would contribute to strengthening the fraternal solidarity, special friendship, comprehensive cooperation and trust between Vietnam and Cuba.
The two senior leaders affirmed their determination to further deepen the exemplary Vietnam-Cuba relationship, which was founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro Ruz and nurtured by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries.
The President sent to the First Secretary, President of Cuba and other high-ranking Cuban leaders his condolences on the consequences of Hurricane Oscar on October 20 and the situation of overcoming the power outage in Cuba in recent times; expressed his belief that the brotherly country of Cuba will continue to steadfastly overcome many difficulties and challenges, achieving new achievements in the cause of protecting, building and developing the socialist country; and congratulated Cuba on its important victory when the United Nations General Assembly on October 30, 2024 voted to pass a resolution demanding an end to the blockade and embargo against Cuba with a majority of votes in favor.
The President emphasized that Vietnam wishes to deepen and further enhance the effectiveness of cooperation with the brotherly country of Cuba in all fields, making the most of the strengths of both sides, in the context that the two countries are looking forward to celebrating the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025), which has been named by the two countries' senior leaders as the Year of Friendship. National Assembly Chairman Esteban Lazo Hernandez expressed his deep gratitude for the warm and thoughtful reception of the leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam as well as of President Luong Cuong himself for the Cuban National Assembly delegation; affirmed that Cuba always remembers and appreciates the solidarity, companionship, sincere support and practical assistance of the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam in recent times, especially in the fields of rice trade and food security, agricultural production development, investment cooperation, as well as at regional and international organizations and multilateral forums.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that Cuba is very interested in exchanging and learning from Vietnam's rich experience in the process of eliminating economic shortcomings and resolving current difficulties and challenges.
The two senior leaders agreed to actively and effectively implement the high-level commitments and agreements reached during the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024, as well as the results of the first inter-parliamentary meeting of the two countries' National Assemblies; at the same time, continue to closely coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums.
