It’s hard to say for sure which is the world’s most expensive home theater speaker system. There are plenty of contenders for the title, including the Transmission Audio Ultimate, Moon Audio Opulence, and Kharma Grand Enigma, all of which sell for millions of dollars. So, at around $130,000, these new Lamborghini speakers aren’t exactly the pinnacle of price. But these are definitely the coolest-looking gadgets we’ve seen in a long time. And that’s not necessarily because Lamborghini is involved—if anything, it’s because the speakers are branded and painted Lambo-style—but because they’re made by Sonus Faber.
This Italian brand has been around since the 1980s, and it’s a household name among the elite. They handcraft speakers, headphones, and other audio gear for the rich, spare no expense in assembling them, and don’t hesitate to sell them for supercar prices. Sonus Faber and Lamborghini have been working together for a while now. We last heard from the two last spring, when the speaker company's car audio system was included in the Revuelto. This time, the target is the homes of the elite, with the Ex3me version, one of Sonus' core products, being dressed up in Lamborghini livery. As mentioned before, this basically means some Lamborghini colors and badges.
However, in addition to the visual tweaks, the speaker system, officially called Il Cremonese Ex3me - Automobili Lamborghini Edition, also comes with a series of technical upgrades to help the car stand out from the crowd. Each speaker comprises a beryllium-diaphragm tweeter, a 180mm natural fibre cone driver, a pair of 180mm woofers, carbon fibre-reinforced side-mounted subwoofers and an innovative Paracross Topology crossover network. As with all Sonus Faber products, the fine-tuning of these components to ensure perfect sound is done with your own ears. All of these details are housed in a custom-designed, angular pentagonal cabinet reminiscent of Lamborghini cars. Customers can choose from five colors, all from the brand’s color catalog: Giallo Countach, Arancio Egon, Blu Marinus Matte, Verde Mercurius and Nero Nemesis Matte.
The Italian supercar maker and its partners plan to show the Il Cremonese Ex3me to the public for the first time at Monterey Car Week. The system will be produced, but only in a limited run of 50 units. Pricing for the speakers has not been announced, but it is estimated that customers will pay around $130,000, about a third of the cost of a Lamborghini Temerario supercar.
