On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (1925-2025), on the evening of June 13, in Hanoi , the Vietnam Fine Arts Association held the opening ceremony of the Exhibition "Art of designing book, newspaper and magazine covers in Vietnam 2025."
Artist Le Tien Vuong, Head of the Graphics Association 2, Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said the exhibition gathered the participation of many artists, graphic designers, journalists, publishers, bookstores and experts in the fields of communication, fine arts, etc. from Hanoi and provinces and cities across the country.
The artists participating in the exhibition are from many generations, from famous professional artists such as Van Sang, Tran Dai Thang, Le Tri Dung, Do Ngoc Dung, Nguyen Le Tam, Do Viet Hung, Pham Minh Hai, Le Tien Vuong, Ngo Xuan Khoi, Tran Thang, Mai Que Vu, Bui Nam, Thy Tra, Ta Huy Long, Kim Duan, Ta Quoc Ky Nam... to design students currently in school.
The exhibition displays and introduces to the public thousands of typical book, newspaper and magazine cover designs. From the first book and newspaper covers bearing the mark of the times, associated with historical periods of the nation, to modern, creative designs in the digital age, including: political, literary, artistic, children's book covers...; newspaper and magazine covers of many publications from different periods, in different localities; new creative graphic designs of recent years in the digital age; documents, sketches and the creative process of artists and designers...
The works displayed at the exhibition introduce to the public a vivid visual space, demonstrating the diversity in expressive language, while clearly depicting the strong transformation of the Vietnamese book, newspaper and magazine cover design industry in the journey of protecting and building the country.
According to artist Le Tien Vuong, book, newspaper and magazine cover design is not simply a form of decoration, but also the first gateway for readers to access the content.
Book, newspaper and magazine layout design is the "second language, the visual highlight" of books and newspapers, in publishing, storytelling, reflecting all aspects of social life and creating the unique identity of Vietnamese book and newspaper covers.
Artist Le Tien Vuong hopes that the exhibition will be a place to honor the value of the design profession - especially cover design and publications, which have long been behind the halo of the authors. Therefore, in this exhibition, besides the selected book, newspaper and magazine cover designs of many generations of designers, there are portraits, names and addresses of each person clearly displayed.
Art critic Mai Thi Ngoc Oanh, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said this is the first time the Vietnam Fine Arts Association has organized an exhibition on "The Art of Designing Covers of Vietnamese Books, Newspapers and Magazines 2025."
The number of thousands of book, newspaper and magazine cover designs that have been printed, used, displayed and introduced by artists at this exhibition has shown the grand scale of the exhibition, and at the same time affirmed the strong development of the art of book, newspaper and magazine cover design in Vietnam in recent years.
The Organizing Committee will select the 10 best works at this exhibition, to award prizes and certificates to authors with excellent book, newspaper and magazine cover designs.
Within the framework of the exhibition, on the morning of June 22, there will be a discussion program, sharing about the art of designing book, newspaper and magazine covers in Vietnam. The discussion will have the participation of many speakers and artists, sharing interesting stories and frank discussions about the profession.
The exhibition is open to visitors from June 13-22, at the Fine Arts Exhibition House (16 Ngo Quyen, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi)./.
