The national target program on sustainable poverty reduction in Lao Cai has been implemented throughout the province, with a special focus on remote communes and areas with a large number of ethnic minorities. Many investment policies for health care , insurance, child nutrition and maternal health care have helped people not only overcome illness but also escape poverty with their own strength.

After being reorganized and restructured, the Lao Cai health sector has operated stably and synchronously from the province to the grassroots level. Thanks to investment in facilities, human resources and technical expertise, the quality of medical examination and treatment in the area has been increasingly improved. On-site treatment capacity has been strengthened, helping people access convenient and effective medical services right at the local level.
The province currently has 8 provincial hospitals with a total of 3,439 beds; 9 regional general hospitals (formerly district hospitals) and 8 regional health centers with a total of 2,852 beds. In addition, the health system also has 31 regional general clinics, providing an additional 460 beds. At the grassroots level, the province maintains 216 commune health stations, of which 48 stations were rearranged from the old Lao Cai area (under the People's Committees of communes and wards) and 168 stations in the old Yen Bai area still maintain the model under the Department of Health.

In recent times, the work of caring for, protecting and improving the health of the people of Lao Cai province, with the health sector as the core, has achieved many important and fundamental achievements. The health network from the province to the commune has been increasingly consolidated and improved; facilities have been invested synchronously and on a large scale; modern equipment; medical staff and workers have been trained in depth; many indicators have been achieved at a high level compared to the national average.
Along with the public health system, the private health network has also developed strongly, with 466 medical examination and treatment facilities, including 5 private hospitals (453 beds), 21 general clinics, 375 specialized clinics and 65 other medical service facilities. This contributes to reducing the burden on the state health system, while expanding people's access to health care services.
Thanks to synchronous investment and improvement of professional capacity, the quality of medical examination and treatment in the area has been significantly improved. The rate of technical services performed according to the Ministry of Health's classification has continuously increased, showing that the on-site treatment capacity of medical facilities in the province is increasingly solid. Specifically: the provincial level reached 81% (up from 74.3% in 2020), the regional hospital/medical center level reached 49.2% (up 20% compared to 2020), the commune level reached 53% (up 7% over the same period).

Speed up the construction progress of Bat Xat Regional General Hospital
Currently, Bat Xat Regional General Hospital, with a total investment of 230 billion VND, is in the final stage, striving to complete before Lunar New Year.
The project was approved at the end of 2021, using central and provincial budget funds for the period 2021 - 2025. The project has a scale of 4 to 7 floors, including administrative - management blocks, examination and treatment areas, with a total floor area of about 13,000 m². The investor is the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board.
After more than two years of implementation, many main items such as technical - professional and medical examination building, administrative area - medical center, and courtyard between the two buildings have been basically completed. According to records, the project is entering the stage of completing auxiliary items such as internal traffic, landscape and connecting corridor system.

Implementing the direction of Lao Cai Department of Health, medical units in the whole industry have established an appraisal council to deploy electronic medical records, under the supervision of professional departments of the Department of Health.
After reviewing and comparing with the requirements of Circular 46/2018/TT-BYT (Ministry of Health), 29/29 hospitals and dual-function medical centers of the province all fully met the standards and were qualified to deploy electronic medical records to completely replace paper records. After appraisal, the units continued to complete the dossiers and send them to the Department of Science, Technology and Training (Ministry of Public Health) for official recognition of implementation.
Up to now, 100% of medical examination and treatment facilities in Lao Cai province have completed the assessment and announced the implementation of electronic medical records, exceeding the progress and targets set by the Government, Ministry of Health and Lao Cai Department of Health.
Thanks to the close attention and direction of the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, along with the dedication of the team of doctors and medical staff, people - especially women and children in the highlands - have had the opportunity to access modern medical services, receive care and treatment with local techniques, without having to travel to Hanoi or other big cities.
