'Respect everything in Laos' and its offensive, arrogant lyrics

Surprised when Jack sang 'How dare those who don't like me in real life? I sing for fun, more than they work in their whole life!'. Blushing when hearing him sing 'Fans often call me Lao/I respect all Lao', the lyrics evoke an association of offensive, vulgar wordplay.

On the evening of October 16 in Hanoi , Jack performed a new, unreleased song with the above lyrics. Just a few hours after Jack's performance clip went viral, social media was flooded with controversy.

Some people think that Jack is expressing his true emotions through music , while others say that the male singer is losing his sophistication in language and should not do so while the drama about him has not yet subsided.

Controversy erupts over Jack's lyrics

Before starting the performance, Jack shared that this was an "untitled song", written by him to "express his feelings, not to focus on commercialism" and sent a message to the audience: "If the song is not good, I hope everyone will ignore it", the melody of the song has a strong Western feel.

However, contrary to the modest introduction, the lyrics of the song surprised the audience.

Most notable are the lyrics: "How dare those who don't like me in real life? I sing for fun, more than they go to work in their whole life!".

Many people think this is Jack's way of showing off his ego, even belittling others.

Audiences left comments on social networks: "You're famous, how can you put such words in the song?", "I give up, what kind of music is this?", "A famous singer sings like that?", "I didn't think one day Jack would be able to sing these lines, how can he be so famous"...

Some viewers still defended Jack, saying that he was just "reacting to public pressure" and showing confidence after many scandals. But the majority of opinions said that including elements of showing off and challenging in the song was inappropriate, especially at a time when the drama surrounding Jack has not yet subsided.

Not stopping there, the lyrics "Fans often call me Lao/I respect all Laotians" continued to stir up controversy because of the wordplay that easily evokes offensive associations.

Although Jack did not explain this line further, many people think that he needs to be more careful because of the artistic language, and as an artist, he should not use such vulgar and offensive language on social networks.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Jack has been criticized for controversial lyrics.

In the live show Anh em ket doan 3 , he once had a diss rap with some lyrics like: "You can defeat me by playing with the media, are you stupid / If you buy those cups, it would probably cost a whole house...".

The use of "response" and "attacking" language makes Jack's image increasingly distant from the neutral audience, those who once sympathized with him after his personal scandals.

Instead of seeing a more mature artist, the public witnessed a defensive Jack who wanted to assert himself by challenging public opinion.

The artist's mettle is not in provoking the public, but in conveying a strong message while remaining subtle, but this time he has crossed the line.

Musical language and cultural responsibility

After the show, many TikTokers cut out the controversial lyrics and reposted them as a "language trend" or as a dish of entertainment cooked up on social media.

Some videos attracted hundreds of thousands of views in just a few hours, showing the strong spread of this phenomenon.

What is worrying is that arrogant and offensive lyrics are being spread like "viral sayings", making it easy for young people to receive them in a distorted way.

Many audiences left comments praising Jack's song, some considered it "the best", "lifetime", "artistic", "good". With lyrics like that, are audiences too lenient with artists, those who are making art?

In the context of Vietnamese music becoming increasingly open, the boundary between "artistic ego" and "cultural consciousness" becomes more fragile than ever.

Jack's constant controversy over his words, from the rap part in the live show Anh em ket doan 3 to this song, makes many people wonder: Is he using lyrics as a tool to affirm his personality, or is he unintentionally hurting his own image?

Some opinions say: "If he really wants to come back, Jack needs to show maturity in both music and attitude towards the public."

Tuoi Tre Online will continue to clarify the responsibility of artists for post-checking lyrics like this after sending questions to responsible agencies and units.
