Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey Conservation Festival – Monkey Day 2024

Conservation Impact Organization; Center for Biodiversity Conservation and Endangered Species in collaboration with Ha Giang Provincial Forest Protection Department organized the Monkey Day 2024 Conservation Festival Program in Tung Ba commune, Vi Xuyen district.

The program is implemented with contents and activities, games such as: Healthy people competition; recycled fashion show; lucky draw; art performance; painting competition, suitable for students and people living around the Khau Ca Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey Species and Habitat Conservation Area, in Tung Ba commune, Vi Xuyen district, Du Gia National Park area, the activities create conditions for people and students to play, learn, experience and change their behavior to protect the forest and protect Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkey primates.

The Provincial Forest Protection Department and many domestic and foreign wildlife conservation organizations have carried out many activities of research and monitoring biodiversity; patrolling combined with propaganda to raise awareness of management, protection, development of special-use forests, conservation of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys and plant species.

Currently, Ha Giang province has about 140 to 160 individuals of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys. In recent times, the provincial Forest Protection Department and many domestic and foreign wildlife conservation organizations have carried out many activities of research and monitoring biodiversity; patrolling combined with propaganda to raise awareness of management, protection, and development of special-use forests, conservation of Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys and plant species; installing about 22 sound recorders and camera traps to record data on Tonkin snub-nosed monkeys; supporting livelihoods for people living adjacent to the conservation area.

The Monkey Day 2024 Conservation Festival Program is part of the "Community-based Conservation Project for Tonkin Snub-nosed Monkeys and Endangered Plant Species 2022 - 2025" of Ha Giang province. It is one of the necessary activities with fundamental and long-term solutions, thereby preserving the habitat for plants and animals, contributing to minimizing the current human encroachment on natural forest areas.
