BHG - On the morning of May 22, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU) coordinated with the Provincial Women's Union to organize a discussion with the topic: "The current status of population policies related to women". Attending the discussion were leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province; representatives of departments, branches, unions, along with experts and officials working on population work.
Overview of the discussion. |
The seminar is an activity within the framework of the Ministry-level scientific project "Population and development policy: Implications for policy development related to women", chaired by the Central Committee of the Association in 2025. The project focuses on studying the current status of population policy in Vietnam and analyzing the impacts of this policy on women. Research activities are carried out in localities representing regions, including Hai Duong, Ha Giang, Dak Lak and Ho Chi Minh City. The seminar takes place in the context of Vietnam facing many population challenges, especially the low birth rate in large cities and the increasing risk of population aging. This is a forum for experts, managers, and representatives of mass organizations to exchange and discuss population policy, focusing on issues related to women such as: Maintaining replacement fertility, controlling gender imbalance at birth and improving population quality. The research results will be an important basis for participating in the development of the Population Law in the coming time.
Leaders of the Provincial Departmentof Education and Training spoke at the seminar. |
In Ha Giang province, the birth rate is the highest in the country at 2.74 children in 2023, however, in the city and district centers, the birth rate is low and decreasing every year; the crude birth rate decreased from 19.39% in 2023 to 16.83% in 2024; the sex ratio at birth is 108.9 boys/100 girls. In the period of 2020 - 2024, population work - family planning faced many difficulties due to the lack of contraceptives, most of which depended on free supplies from the Central Government. A part of the people, especially in ethnic minority areas, still have the idea of having many children, having a son to continue the family line. Along with that, the population staff at all levels is unstable, population collaborators in villages and hamlets work ineffectively, do not receive salary support, affecting the progress of implementing activities at the grassroots level.
Representative of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions spoke at the seminar. |
At the seminar, delegates focused on discussing: Ethnic and religious factors affecting the implementation of population policy in the province; overview of population issues in the province; education work to raise awareness of population issues for young people; awareness of the role of women in implementing population policy; role of youth in implementing population policy...
Through the discussion, the aim is to study the current status of population policy in Vietnam, identify the impact of population and development policy on women; on that basis, propose solutions to build and perfect policies to promote the role of women in implementing population policy.
