Legend has it that Huyen Thien Hac De was the third son of the Jade Emperor and was banished to the lower world to be reincarnated as the son of a wealthy couple in Huu Tiep village who did good deeds but had no children. When he was born, the boy had dark skin so he was named Hac Cong. The boy loved hunting and often went to Sua mountain to play. At the age of 8, he climbed a tree, unfortunately fell and died early. The villagers built a temple on Sua mountain to worship him. This temple is famous for its sacredness because it grants all wishes. When the Champa invaders harassed the border, King Ly Thanh Tong sent people to suppress them but they failed in many battles. One night, the king dreamed of a black god flying from the north to ask for help to save the country. During the battle, the god transformed into a black cloud, created a storm, sank the enemy ships, and helped the king win a great victory. Upon returning, the king rebuilt the temple on Sua mountain and honored the god as Huyen Thien Hac De Thuong Dang Phuc Than. |
