The workshop “Implementing ESG with science and technology - From data to action” was successfully organized by Dan Tri newspaper in Hanoi on the afternoon of November 26. The event had the participation of a team of speakers who were leading experts and representatives of many pioneering enterprises, prestigious organizations, and journalists with experience in digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the feedback of most of the attendees, the event had attractive, diverse and multi-dimensional content with presentations and in-depth discussions. The workshop brought multi-dimensional perspectives, updated new models, and opened up direct dialogue between the business community and experts to promote the application of science and technology as an important driving force of sustainable development.

Prof. Dr. Mac Quoc Anh - Vice President and General Secretary of the Hanoi Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Director of the Institute of Economics and Enterprise Development - emphasized that ESG is becoming a vital requirement for Vietnamese enterprises in the new period.
Mr. Mac Quoc Anh pointed out that ESG is gradually becoming a mandatory global standard. Europe's CBAM requires exporting enterprises to prove their carbon emissions; multinational corporations require suppliers in Vietnam to provide full environmental, labor and transparent governance data.
According to him, the most important thing is that SMEs should not expect to do big things right from the start, but must choose the right approach. “SMEs do not need to start with big things, but can completely take small but sure, correct and sufficient steps,” he emphasized.

Sharing the airline's practical experience in applying technology, integrating ESG and spreading green lifestyle in the aviation industry at the workshop, Mr. Ta Huu Thanh - Commercial Director, Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company - said that over the years, the enterprise has consistently pursued a sustainable development strategy, taking science and technology as the foundation and ESG as the main orientation in the operation process.
According to him, this is a long-term orientation, helping Vietjet build its position as a modern airline, pioneering innovation and quickly adapting to global trends.

Ms. Do Thi Thu Phuong - Deputy Head of the Department of Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development, Vietnam National Energy Industry Group (PVN) - said that each business model has its own difficulties when implementing ESG.
According to her, PVN is using technological solutions to solve bottlenecks in collecting and standardizing ESG data, aiming to monitor and measure emissions and safety based on real data; thereby forecasting and making timely decisions to adjust strategies and production and business.
Ms. Phuong affirmed that ESG is considered by PVN as a sustainable development strategy, a driving force for upgrading corporate governance. Technology plays a central role, helping PVN measure, forecast, optimize and be transparent in implementing ESG, thereby turning commitments into concrete actions, towards a green and sustainable energy future for Vietnam.

Dr. Dinh Viet Sang - Vice Principal of the School of Information Technology (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) - said that in the context of globalization, sustainable development and technology are no longer two parallel paths but have converged. Compliance with ESG standards is gradually becoming a mandatory mechanism to participate in the international playground, and AI is the "super subject" that helps realize this goal.
He emphasized that integrating AI into ESG is not a cost but a great opportunity, especially when Vietnam is in the early stages of dual transformation. "Success will come to organizations that know how to balance the power of technology and responsibility for the green planet," Mr. Sang emphasized.

In his presentation on ESG transformation implementation from the local and business perspectives, Dr. Ha Huy Ngoc - Director of the Center for Research on Local and Territorial Economic Policy and Strategy (Vietnam and World Economic Institute) - outlined a picture of the many pressures that small and medium-sized enterprises in Bac Ninh are facing on the green transformation journey.
Dr. Ngoc emphasized that one of the most important factors for ESG transformation today is data. The most important is correct, sufficient, clean, live, and unified data for common use. According to him, a complete set of data in the ESG transformation process is essential. Current data is not only incomplete but also does not reflect real time, and cannot see a realistic picture of what is happening at the present time.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Minh - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nutricare Joint Stock Company, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Key Industrial Products Production Association - when a business ensures cash flow and creates stable value, the development model is truly sustainable.
ESG is applied differently depending on the type of business. Manufacturing businesses have different requirements, service businesses have different requirements. But in general, about 70-90% of ESG criteria are aimed at the ultimate goal of ensuring sustainability in operations and growth.
After Resolution 57, what Vietnamese enterprises need to focus on is to increase added value, increase investment capital and increase R&D content in products. Of course, the level and method will be different between industries such as manufacturing, semiconductors, textiles, footwear. But Resolution 57 is the right step, helping Vietnam avoid the middle-income trap.

Dr. Le Thai Ha - Executive Director of VinFuture Fund, Fund for Green Future - believes that we are living in an era where sustainable development and digital transformation are no longer a trend but have become the "common language" of growth. Any business that has not yet spoken that language will likely soon be left behind.
According to Dr. Ha, in the world, science and technology are considered the "key" to help businesses achieve green growth goals and in Vietnam, the story of applying technology in ESG implementation is also being implemented by many businesses at different levels.
