What major should I study to forecast storms and check hydroelectric dams for flood discharge?

(Dan Tri) - Which universities are training in fields serving storm and flood forecasting is a concern of many people and candidates, as the weather situation becomes increasingly complicated.

University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) enrolls students in the major of Meteorology and Climatology with the following combinations: A00; A01; A02; A04; A06; B00; B02; B03; B08; C01; C02; C04; D01; D07; D10; X26.

The field of Meteorology and Climatology trains students to understand natural phenomena occurring in the atmosphere such as storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, and knowledge of observation or editing, and research on weather and climate.

Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HU) trains in majors related to meteorology and hydrology including: Climate change and sustainable development; Meteorology and Climatology; Hydrology.

This major aims to train students with knowledge and skills in collecting, observing, measuring and analyzing, calculating hydrology, forecasting hydrology, water resources to serve the design of works for exploiting and protecting water resources, hydropower, water supply and drainage, planning, managing water resources and preventing natural disasters.

The school has not yet had a plan for enrollment in 2026, but last year, Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment enrolled students in the Meteorology and Climatology major using the following methods: Admission based on high school exam results; admission based on high school transcript scores; direct admission, priority admission according to the enrollment regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Meanwhile, the University of Water Resources also announced training in Hydrology.

In the South, Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment also trains in both Meteorology and Hydrology.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Science has an Oceanography department that also specializes in meteorology and hydrology.

According to the school, this major equips students with knowledge of physical, chemical, and dynamic processes in the atmosphere, ocean, and on land, as well as survey, calculation, and forecasting skills.
