Black pig, a specialty pig, loves to eat banana leaves, successfully raised in Ha Giang, just say sell and it's all sold out

Many households in Then Phang commune (Xin Man district, Ha Giang province) have boldly implemented suitable livestock models, including the model of raising black pigs - a special breed of pig. People apply science and technology, link value chains in livestock farming, bring many economic values, and become typical models in the difficult commune of Then Phang.

Born and raised in Doan Ket village, Mr. Ma Seo Giang always struggled to find a suitable direction to develop his family's economy.

With a spirit of learning, in 2022, Mr. Giang was given the opportunity by the commune government to visit and learn about the model of raising goats in captivity.

Realizing this was a potential direction, he decided to sell a family buffalo to build a barn and buy goats to raise.

The early days of starting his business also encountered certain difficulties. Mr. Giang had to learn the techniques himself and take care of the goats according to each stage of growth. Thanks to his perseverance, after 2 years, his herd of goats grew healthily, reproduced well, and created a source of high-quality breeding goats and commercial goats.

At the end of 2024, Mr. Giang's family earned about 75 million VND from raising goats, buffaloes and pigs.

Not stopping there, he also actively shared his experiences with villagers, encouraging them to boldly try this model, contributing to the overall economic development of the whole community.

Mr. Ma Seo Giang shared: In our locality, farming and livestock raising still play a key role in people's lives. However, deciding what animals to raise and what plants to plant is still a very difficult problem.

Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, Khau Tinh village, Then Phang commune (Xin Man district, Ha Giang province) takes care of a herd of black pigs - a special type of pig. Once they grow to the right weight, they are easy to sell.

Because if it is only “self-sufficient” for daily life, it is very easy, but to become a commodity is a different story. I chose the goat farming model and received support from the local government in finding output for the product, so currently the model is still bringing economic value to the family.

In recent years, many families in Then Phang have boldly changed their economic thinking, applying science and technology to production to become rich.

Not only Mr. Giang, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, a resident in Khau Tinh village, has chosen the black pig farming model to develop her economy.

With the spirit of "dare to think, dare to do", in 2023, when the district and commune supported the implementation of the commercial black pig farming model, Ms. Thuy boldly borrowed capital from the Social Policy Bank to build a large-scale farm barn.

With the mindset of "taking short-term to feed long-term", from a few native black pigs, she gradually expanded her family's pig herd and made the most of natural food sources to reduce costs.

Currently, Ms. Thuy still maintains a herd of 85 black pigs, selling two litters a year, earning about 155 million VND.

Seeing the effectiveness of this model, Ms. Thuy continued to restore the herd, invested in more vegetable and banana cutting machines and expanded the barn.

Not only does she increase her family's income, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy is also willing to share her experiences with households who are interested in raising pigs, encouraging them to increase production to increase income and develop a sustainable economy.

Mr. Ma Seo Giàng and Ms. Tran Thi Thuy are two typical households in economic development in the locality, recognized by the People's Committee of Then Phang commune in 2024.

In the context of agricultural development still depending on many factors, especially the consumer market, the development of livestock economy in the direction of value linkage is applied and brings economic efficiency to farmers.

From there, creating effective loan support sources, gradually improving the lives of ethnic minority people in Then Phang commune.
