Why does being lazy about sunbathing make you gain weight?

Some key nutrient deficiencies that can contribute to weight gain include:
Vitamin D deficiency : Vitamin D, also known as the “sunshine vitamin,” plays an important role in regulating metabolism and insulin sensitivity.
When vitamin D levels are low, the body may have difficulty burning fat efficiently, leading to weight gain.
Limited exposure to sunlight is a common cause of vitamin D deficiency, Kumar said.
Omega-3 fatty acid deficiency: Low levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are abundant in fatty fish, can disrupt hormones that control hunger, causing you to crave high-calorie foods. This can lead to overeating and weight gain.
Protein Deficiency: Protein is the main building block of muscle tissue and adequate intake helps regulate satiety hormones and control feelings of fullness.
Low protein intake can lead to increased appetite and overeating, ultimately leading to weight gain.
Vitamin B Deficiency: B vitamins such as B12 and B6 play an important role in energy metabolism and converting food into usable energy. When these B vitamins are deficient, fatigue and cravings for sugary foods can occur, leading to weight gain.
Iron deficiency: Although often associated with fatigue, iron deficiency can also disrupt your metabolism. Iron is essential for transporting oxygen throughout the body, and when levels are low, the body may compensate by storing more fat for energy. Kumar points out that iron deficiency can cause weight gain due to hormonal imbalances.
It is important to note that weight gain is not the only consequence of these deficiencies. They can also manifest as fatigue, depressed mood, difficulty concentrating, and weakened immunity.

Nutritionist Kumar advises that if you are experiencing unwanted weight gain due to a nutritional deficiency, the first thing you should do is consult your doctor. If you suspect you have a nutritional deficiency, your doctor can conduct blood tests to confirm and recommend appropriate supplements or dietary changes.
Additionally, you should prioritize a balanced diet: Focus on consuming whole, unprocessed foods rich in essential vitamins and minerals. Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats should be the foundation of your diet.
In particular, you should make a habit of exposing yourself to sunlight: Regular exposure to sunlight increases vitamin D levels.
Consume fatty fish: Add salmon, tuna, and sardines to your diet for omega-3 fatty acids.
Consume more lentils, nuts and whole grains: These are great sources of plant-based protein for vegetarians.
