Why Thai Airlines Started Weighing Passengers

Foreign airlines in Thailand have also implemented passenger weighing regulations to check and calculate standard and average passenger weights. The collected data will help them determine weight distribution on international flights, contributing to reducing aircraft fuel consumption, according to Thaiger .

Previously, the Fly Air Asia Facebook page posted that during the week of October 16-20, at Don Mueang airport, several flights of many airlines asked passengers to voluntarily weigh themselves and their luggage to collect weight data.

This passenger weighing data will then be used to update and improve service efficiency, in line with safety standards.

Airlines conducting this activity coordinate with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand to collect weight data, all of which is kept confidential, in compliance with the PDPA law.

Recently, Thai Lion Air also implemented passenger weighing measures and said that during the week of October 17-20, they invited passengers to contribute statistics on their average weight and luggage.

This information will then be applied to safety standards and improvements for maximum efficiency. Thai Lion Air does this in cooperation with the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand, collecting passenger data that will be considered confidential under the PDPA law.

According to the airline, the pre-boarding weight and baggage checks are voluntary and will be carried out at Don Mueang Airport on selected flights.

Last month, it was reported that Bangkok Airways was considering following in the footsteps of several international airlines by conducting pre-boarding weight checks on passengers.
