Why Samsung's tri-fold phone is worth the wait

An important leak from tech expert Evan Blass has just revealed the configuration details of the upcoming triple-folding device from Samsung. Accordingly, the Korean giant will definitely name the product “Galaxy Z TriFold” - a name that is considered straightforward and suitable for the design of the device.

The Galaxy Z TriFold will reportedly feature a 6.5-inch outer display and a 10-inch inner display when unfolded, in line with the previously rumored ultra-thin design direction. To optimize outdoor visibility, Samsung has increased the maximum brightness of the inner display to 2,600 nits and the outer display to 1,600 nits, surpassing many current flagship models.

Structurally, the body folds into three sections with uneven thicknesses, measuring 3.9 mm, 4 mm, and 4.2 mm respectively. This difference in thickness is considered unusual and could affect the folding mechanism or the overall durability of the device.

In terms of performance, the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to deliver top-notch processing power. The device is expected to be equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, along with a large 5,437 mAh battery. The most notable highlight is that the device will integrate a 200 MP main camera, thereby affirming Samsung's competitive efforts in the highest-end mobile photography segment.

The combination of a 10-inch internal display and an ultra-thin folding design positions the TriFold as a unique hybrid device, bridging the gap between a standard smartphone and a large tablet. By including a larger battery than is common on slim folding devices, Samsung is trying to balance a slim design with reasonable battery life.

However, the success or failure of the TriFold will depend largely on solving real-world challenges. Key factors include durability in everyday use, the reliability of the three-layer hinge, and especially the ability to optimize the software to ensure seamless transitions between the three display spaces.

If it overcomes these barriers, the Galaxy Z TriFold could completely redefine the tri-fold smartphone segment as early as 2025.

Although Samsung has yet to announce an official launch date, many leaked signs, typically the Galaxy Z TriFold being approved by the Bluetooth SIG agency, show that the launch date is near.

Unofficial information suggests the device could launch on December 5th for around $3,000 , although availability remains a mystery. Consumers will need to keep a close eye on the official launch, which is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
