(CTO) - Unfortunately, he fell off the boat and drifted in the middle of the ocean for nearly 4 days and nights, yet Mr. Tran Van Viet, 43 years old, in Go Quao district, Kien Giang province, still miraculously escaped.

In a thatched house built on land borrowed from a relative in Hoa Hieu 1 hamlet, Dinh Hoa commune, Go Quao district, Mr. Viet pensively recounts his thrilling story of escaping death.
Mr. Viet said he was on a double-drag boat with many other brothers in Binh Dai district, Ben Tre province. At that time, there was an unfortunate person who was seriously injured, so the boat had to speed up to the shore for emergency treatment. At about 7 p.m. on June 1, he went up to the boat's deck and unfortunately slipped and fell into the sea. He tried to call for help, but because the boat was running on a large engine, no one heard.
“I was very scared and kept swimming in vain. Whenever I saw the flickering light of squid fishing boats, I swam in that direction but could not reach them,” said Mr. Viet.
After drifting at sea for about 2.5 days, Mr. Viet was completely exhausted, resigned to his fate and gradually fell asleep until he was discovered and rescued by another fishing boat nearly 1.5 days later (afternoon of June 4) about 70km from Phu Quy Island. Although he has been home for more than a week, the traces of fish bites, peeling skin from being soaked in water, sunburn from exposure to the sun, and blisters on his mouth and tongue are still visible on Mr. Viet's body. Until now, Mr. Viet still cannot eat or drink normally...
Mr. Vo Minh Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dinh Hoa commune, said: "After receiving the information, the local authorities came to encourage, visit and learn more about the situation to have a direction to support Mr. Viet's family."
