Not having to play in the EURO 2024 qualifiers, the two "irreconcilable" neighboring teams England and Scotland still scheduled a friendly match, marking the 150th confrontation in football history between the two sides. Both teams are currently at the top of their EURO qualifying groups with very stable form, so the match promises to be very attractive in addition to the heat from stories on and off the field from the past.
The match was heated from the first minutes.
The home team Scotland impressed with the central midfield pairing of Scott McTominay - John McGinn, while England used Foden - Rashford - Kane in attack with Jude Bellingham positioned behind. After missing the first chance with a shot over the bar in the 18th minute, Phil Foden made up for his mistake by opening the scoring in the 32nd minute with a rebound after a powerful shot from Kyle Walker.
Just 3 minutes later, home defender Andy Robertson made a mistake with a pass straight to Jude Bellingham's feet and the new Real Madrid striker did not miss the opportunity to double the gap for the "Three Lions". In the first half's injury time, Bellingham coordinated with Foden to create a cross across the goal but no teammate was able to get in to support.

After the break, Scotland stepped up their attack and Billy Gilmour curled a shot over the bar in the 50th minute and Christie had a shot that went wide in the 65th minute. The home team were unexpectedly given a "gift" by Harry Maguire, who came on at the start of the second half to replace Marc Guehi. In the 67th minute, in an attempt to block Robertson's cross, Maguire accidentally put the ball into his own net, leaving goalkeeper Ramsdale helpless.

Coach Gareth Southgate brought in Bukayo Saka and Eberechi Eze to strengthen the attack and just 2 minutes after entering the field, Eze himself turned the ball past Jack Hendry but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Jude Bellingham almost had a double for himself in the 75th minute but he had no regrets when he made an assist in the 81st minute for teammate Harry Kane to shoot low, sealing a 3-1 victory for the "Three Lions".
