Mobilizing efforts to paint and repair houses for the people.
From early morning, the house of Ms. Cao Thi Kieng (Suoi Lau 1 hamlet, Suoi Dau commune) was bustling with activity as the commune's permanent militia arrived to help her family repaint and repair their house in time for the Lunar New Year. Some cleaned, others painted the walls, and still others patched the peeling floor... Ms. Cao Thi Ca Nien, Ms. Kieng's daughter, said: "Our house was built with government assistance more than 25 years ago, and it has deteriorated over time. But because my mother is over 80 years old and often ill; I have a congenital disability that prevents me from working; and the whole family relies on social welfare and the help of relatives, we don't have the funds to repair the house. Thanks to the commune's forces who came to paint and repair the house for free, our family will have a clean and beautiful house this Tet, and I am very happy!"

Not far away, youth union members and family members of Ms. Cao Thi Dien (Suoi Lau 3 village) were also scrubbing moss off the walls and repainting her house. Ms. Dien said: “Our house was built a long time ago, and over time, due to use and the effects of rain and floods, it has deteriorated. Moss has covered the walls, and the doors are starting to break. Although we really wanted to renovate the house to make it more presentable, due to limited economic resources, we couldn't do it. Thanks to the commune's efforts, after two days of repairs, our house is not only cleaner and more beautiful, but it also gives me peace of mind to live here.”

Ms. Cao Thi Lieu, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Suoi Dau commune, said: "In the commune, 83 houses were repaired during this period. Most were built with government support in 2001; some houses were dilapidated and severely damaged. Meanwhile, the economic conditions of the ethnic minority people are mostly poor or near-poor, so they cannot afford to repair the houses themselves. Based on this practical need, the commune mobilized ECO Company and PT79 Infrastructure Company to provide over 100 cans of paint with a cost of nearly 100 million VND; at the same time, we mobilized the permanent militia, youth union members, and people to contribute labor and effort to help paint and repair houses so that people can celebrate the Lunar New Year in a more joyful and warm atmosphere."
Warmth in new homes
In Trung Khanh Vinh commune, where nearly 86% of the population are ethnic minorities, we visited the home of Ms. Cao Thanh Ve (Suoi Ca village). Pointing to her house under construction, Ms. Ve happily shared: "At the beginning of 2025, I got married and moved out on my own. The only asset my husband and I owned was a 100m² plot of land given to us by our parents. To have a temporary place to live, my husband and I cut thatch and bamboo to build a house. During the recent floods, the house leaked and got wet, so we had to stay with relatives. When we heard that the commune leaders were mobilizing benefactors to support the construction of a new house, my family was overjoyed. This Tet, we will be able to live in a spacious and sturdy house. This is the biggest dream of my husband and me," Ms. Ve said.

Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Thanh, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Tay Khanh Vinh commune, said that Ms. Ve's house is one of six houses that received funding from the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Association of Khanh Hoa province, the Saigon Young Entrepreneurs Association, the Phu Tho Young Entrepreneurs Association, and other benefactors to build new houses or repair existing ones for poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged households; the total funding provided is over 550 million VND. The local authorities are determined to complete and hand over the houses for use before the Lunar New Year of 2026.

Through flexible approaches and strong determination from local authorities, new, spacious houses have replaced dilapidated thatched huts. This is a practical and meaningful humanitarian act, demonstrating the solidarity and mutual support of the community, helping poor and disadvantaged households in ethnic minority areas of the province to have stable housing and welcome a more complete and warm new spring.
