“Lifebuoy” of young mother

Growing up in a poor family with divorced parents, Nguyen Khac Thi Duyen, born in 2000 in Hat Mon commune ( Hanoi ), had to work hard to earn a living. Life was already full of hardships, but fate placed an even more cruel challenge on the young girl's shoulders - she became pregnant unintentionally. As the pregnancy grew, Duyen had to face pressure and rejection from her family, and her husband's family also insisted that she abort the child. During the days and months of extreme despair, Duyen could only cry because she was at a dead end. While lonely and helpless, when the pregnancy was more than 8 months old, Duyen accidentally learned about the Thai Binh Youth Volunteer Club. Like a drowning person clutching at a pole, she proactively contacted the club to seek help. Immediately, Duyen was welcomed by the club, given food, accommodation and attentive care until she gave birth. The members of the Club not only listened to Duyen's story but also proactively learned about and connected with her family. After efforts to understand and persuade, Duyen was welcomed back by her family. After more than a month of taking refuge at the Club's shelter. Duyen emotionally shared: When I returned to the Club's shelter, I was warmly welcomed by the brothers and sisters, who took care of my meals, my sleep, and talked and encouraged me a lot. It was everyone's care and warm affection that helped me regain my spirit. Thanks to the Club, I was able to overcome the most difficult period, and more importantly, my child was born healthy. For me, this is not just a shelter, but a second family, the place that gave me a new life.

Spread the love

Established in October 2012, Thai Binh Youth Volunteer Club began its journey with a clear vision and passionate hearts to help the disadvantaged, bring smiles and hope to the unfortunate. After more than a decade of persistent operation, the Club has built a series of diverse and meaningful volunteer activities such as: Building charity houses for families in especially difficult circumstances, calling for hospital fees for poor patients, supporting poor students to overcome difficulties...

The highlight of the club's activities is to establish a shelter for single pregnant mothers. Accordingly, the club focuses on supporting pregnant mothers from the 8th month of pregnancy until childbirth and a period after childbirth. The reason for choosing this time is because this is an extremely sensitive period, requiring special care both physically and mentally for both mother and baby. At the shelter, mothers are supported with food, accommodation, medical care and, most importantly, are encouraged and comforted to overcome prejudices and complexes. Each mother and child pair is supported with all costs of childbirth and living with a budget of about 15 - 20 million VND. The shelter can currently take in 3 pregnant mothers at the same time, which is the starting point of a motherhood journey full of determination and love.

To maintain operations and ensure quality care for pregnant mothers, the Club has called on and mobilized organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to support funding and invest in facilities and equipment at the shelter. At the same time, the Club assigns members to directly support the shelter, taking on tasks ranging from daily care, psychological counseling to taking pregnant mothers to prenatal check-ups.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Duy, Chairman of the Thai Binh Youth Volunteer Club, said: The shelter for single pregnant mothers is not only a temporary shelter, but also a symbol of compassion, sharing and the power of humanity. Every healthy baby born, every mother regaining faith is the greatest reward for those who do humanitarian work like us. I hope that in the coming time, the model of the shelter for single pregnant mothers of the Club will continue to receive attention and financial support from all levels, sectors, businesses and philanthropists so that we can continue our journey of spreading love.
