“The flight took off at 5:15 p.m. on May 19. At 6:04 p.m. (after 56 minutes - PV), the flight crew discovered the plane had a problem and requested to land at Noi Bai. All crew and passengers on the flight landed safely at 7:05 p.m. the same day. The cause was a dented nose cone and a cracked right windshield,” Mr. Phuong informed.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause. It is speculated that the plane may have hit a bird or encountered hail. The Northern Airport Authority said the incident is still under investigation.

Previously, at the end of December 2023, Japan's Mainichi newspaper reported that a Boeing 787 of Vietnam Airlines landed at Narita Airport (Tokyo) with a cracked cockpit window.

The plane departed from Ho Chi Minh City to Narita on December 26. While flying at an altitude of 12,300m, about 50km east of Tokunoshima Island (Kagoshima Prefecture), the cockpit window cracked. The plane then continued its flight and landed at Narita Airport at 13:31 (Japan time). All 94 passengers and crew on board were safe.

After the plane landed, the airport runway was closed for 3 minutes for safety checks and no abnormalities were detected.

The Civil Aviation Authority classified this incident as a "safety hazard" (level D).
