Artificial intelligence (AI) has already been widely used in the software of car infotainment systems, and can be expanded further. A notable example is the scanner system that many US dealerships, such as Findlay Cadillac in Las Vegas, are using AI to conduct preliminary vehicle inspections.

Findlay Cadillac is the first dealership in Las Vegas to install an automated vehicle inspection system developed by technology company UVEye. The technology has been deployed at 300 auto dealerships in the US, significantly improving efficiency and reducing customer wait times.
The AI inspection process is simple and takes less than a minute. The customer drives past a large scanner that takes multiple photos of the car from every angle, including the undercarriage. The images are then passed through AI software to detect visible defects in the exterior, tires, and mechanical parts.
About 30-45 seconds later, the customer receives a full status report on the vehicle. Depending on the results, the technician can address any potential issues, ensuring the vehicle is safe to drive on the road.
The process can be described as an MRI for cars. Emmanuel Epino, a senior manager at Findlay Cadillac dealership, praised the AI-powered scanner for its accuracy; it even found problems that technicians sometimes wouldn’t see.
Meanwhile, Daniel Frandsen from technology company UVEye said their automated vehicle inspection system can quickly detect problems, such as oil leaks, that would normally require a technician to spend more time lifting the vehicle and inspecting it thoroughly.
So will AI replacing humans put service department staff out of work? The answer is “no”. Instead, it creates more work for technicians, keeping them busy with repairs that might otherwise be overlooked.
