VietNamNetVietNamNet22/06/2025

- From a Polytechnic student to a famous MC of VTV, what moment made you realize that hosting was your "career"? And Ms. Thu Trang also appeared on the radio, how passionate is she about the media?

MC Hanh Phuc: I started from zero. I was a student at Hanoi University of Science and Technology but I spent every night hosting shows on student stages, in small halls, and even at events without pay. Although I was physically exhausted due to my busy schedule, I never felt tired of hosting. That was when I realized that hosting and later on, visual journalism, made me as passionate as breathing.

Ms. Thu Trang: When I was a child, I really admired BTV Quang Minh - BTV Van Anh who hosted the 7pm News. When I was in 11th grade, my passion for television rose but was temporarily put aside when I chose to follow my parents' direction and register for the pedagogical major. And then it flared up again 3 years ago, when I had the opportunity to apply and pass the exam to be a radio MC for Hanoi's peak on FM90. I love news and connecting information.

- Your voice is suitable for the news "Chuyen Dong 24h", moved the audience in "Cap la yeu thuong", and is flexible in art events. What is the secret to helping you practice this versatility?

MC Hanh Phuc: I always feel lucky to be a student of great artists: Meritorious Artist Kim Tien, Meritorious Artist Thanh Hung, People's Artist Tran Hieu, People's Artist Hoang Dung... All of my teachers have contributed greatly to my voice and hosting style now. Changing my voice to match the content is extremely important. I still practice breathing and mouth shape every day. But to be more complete, I always put my whole heart and emotions into hosting each genre. Each program is a different emotional life.

- Which milestone in 20 years of working in television makes you most proud? How do you feel about this journey, Thu Trang?

MC Hanh Phuc: I started working in television in 2005. The first time I appeared on VTV was in a children's program. And exactly 10 years later, I had a breakthrough when I first appeared on Chuyen Dong 24h in 2015. The program was on International Happiness Day, the theme throughout the news was also happiness - as if it was destined for me.

Ms. Thu Trang: I did not know about MC Hanh Phuc 20 years ago, but when I heard my husband's story, I admired him very much. From an electrical engineering student at the University of Technology, he was able to switch to become a BTV-MC, that must have been a great effort. I feel proud that my husband can create many values for the community and society tirelessly on the journey of the past 20 years.

- You once said "hosting must be done with your soul". Can you share an experience that left you with special emotions?

MC Hanh Phuc: Those are the highlights of the holiday on September 2, 2015 - the occasion of the 70th anniversary of National Day. To complete this highlight, we have collected many valuable stories about Uncle Ho's journey, of historical figures. We traveled to many places, from Nhat Tan Bridge to talk about Phuc Xa ferry - where there was a special ferry that took Uncle Ho back to Hanoi to prepare for National Day...

Ms. Thu Trang: When watching Mr. Phuc host, I always put myself in the position of an audience to watch and feel. I was moved, shed tears with the sentences Mr. Phuc quoted in the documentary, got goosebumps with excerpts of poems, sentences... Of course, I will be a more demanding and difficult audience so that if possible, I can help Mr. Phuc and his crew have better quality television products.

- You once performed the song "Ca dao me" by the late musician Trinh Cong Son and sang a duet with runner-up Thuy Van. Where did your love for music , folk music and revolutionary music originate?

MC Hanh Phuc: I listened to the radio since I was very young. Every night before going to bed, my mother used to sing to me. Folk songs and revolutionary music also permeated me from that time. When I was a student in Hanoi, I just learned about music nights for students. That space probably made me love Trinh's music more.

- What do you do to stay "new" in the eyes of the audience after 2 decades in the profession?

MC Hanh Phuc: I don't chase after "new things" on the outside, but renew myself from within. Every year, I learn something new. Last year, I completed my master's degree in business administration. And this year I continue to do research on marketing communications management. I am also building connections and chatting with the audience more often through livestreams on TikTok and my personal fanpage on a regular basis.

MC Hanh Phuc performs the song "We watch over your sleep":

- In your role as an MC skills teacher, what do you often advise students so that they are not only good at techniques but also able to touch the hearts of the audience?

MC Hanh Phuc: Technique is just the tip of the iceberg - what touches the audience is sincerity, from deep emotions. I often advise students: even though you are young, experience everything in life when you can, chat with the water seller or the motorbike taxi driver to gain more thoughts that sometimes you yourself never have. Learning to speak is not to speak well but to listen and understand better.

- How do you balance your busy schedule and family moments?

MC Hanh Phuc: I choose family as a place to recharge. Even though I'm busy, I still have dinner with my wife and 2 children. Some days it's only 30 minutes but it's a quality 30 minutes - no phone calls, no meetings, just laughter and small stories like what the kids ate today, what they studied.

Ms. Thu Trang: I am used to my husband working on holidays and Tet. So even when it is our wedding anniversary, I still tell him not to ask for leave, just arrange his work and go to work as usual. When it is done, we will go out for snacks together.

- Egg is very active, smart and talkative, seemingly influenced by his father. How do you teach him? How is Elephant's health now?

MC Hanh Phuc: People often use flowery words like genes or "like father, like son". But I still think it all comes from training. Before, I had a lot of contact with children through the MC kids class of the training center, I also somewhat understood the children's personalities.

When I had children, I applied the method of teaching speaking and presenting to children so that Egg, who is only 4 years old this year, can learn to speak and be more confident in front of a crowd. The method is simple: the child will follow his father about 60%, and the remaining 40% I guide the child to speak or think on his own in his own direction.

Ms. Thu Trang: Voi is now over 8 months old. Thankfully, he is stronger. However, due to the effects of respiratory failure when he was born, he still needs to be monitored regularly and periodically at the National Children's Hospital. Sometimes the whole family wants to go out, travel or simply go out together, but it is very difficult right now. Doctors still advise keeping the baby away from strangers and avoiding changing environments.

- This year marks 10 years since you became a vegetarian. Do you teach your children to be vegetarian or share about this lifestyle?

MC Hanh Phuc: I have been a vegetarian for 10 years. My wife is not too dependent on me. My two children are not yet, but I do not force them. I share so that they understand why I choose to live like this - gently, guiding them towards good thoughts. The important thing is to plant a seed - the growth will be their journey.

- On June 21, what message do you want to send to young people who dream of becoming MCs - Editors?

MC Hanh Phuc: Love your job with all your heart, because only your heart can keep you when the spotlight has not yet arrived, or when the stage lights are off. The most important skill, for me, is the "art of listening" - listening to the character, listening to the audience and listening to yourself. And don't be afraid to take it slow. Because being a journalist is a long journey - sometimes a glance, a moment of silence is more valuable than hundreds of frames or lines.

Ms. Thu Trang: As a teacher, I often tell my students: if you want to become a presenter - start by becoming an inspiration, whether in a small group or in your own family. For me, the most important soft skill is not just speaking - but empathy, knowing how to choose kind words to communicate.

- Your wishes on Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21?

Ms. Thu Trang: On June 21, I would like to send my best wishes to my husband - a person who is always serious with every quote and every news report - and to all journalists: I wish everyone to always keep the passion of their profession and always be loved by the audience they serve.

MC Hanh Phuc: June 21 is not only a career milestone, but for me - it is also a day to remember, to be grateful and to cherish more the path that I have been, am and will continue to walk. I would like to send my best wishes to all journalists - those who have chosen to live with the word "truth", chosen to listen to life with all their hearts to tell it with a responsible voice.
