He also expressed: "Earlier this year at the World Leaders' Summit on Children's Rights in the Vatican, he reiterated his hope for football as a unifying force globally and a positive force for good".

The Argentine Football Federation's account also reposted an emotional image of the legendary Diego Maradona giving Pope Francis the Argentina national team's number 10 shirt with his name: "Francisco". The Italian national team's account recalled Pope Francis' immortal words: "Even with a rag ball, you can still do miracles. Rest in peace, Pope Francis".

Meanwhile, in memory of Pope Francis, the Serie A (Italy) organizers announced that all matches scheduled for April 21 and the Primavera 1 tournament have been postponed. The dates of these matches will be rearranged and announced in the near future.
