Meta has been criticized for failing to monitor and remove fake ads in a timely manner, highlighting a lack of consumer protection on the company’s platform.

Meta said it is working with authorities to improve its ad control processes and protect users.

Meta has previously faced numerous investigations and lawsuits over false advertising.

In addition to the $36 million fine, Meta is also facing increasing pressure from global regulators, which could affect the company's operations and advertising strategy going forward.
