On the evening of August 4, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said: The North and Central regions are experiencing a rare heat wave, with record high temperatures in August.
At Lang Meteorological Station (Hanoi) recorded 39.7 degrees Celsius; Phu Ly Meteorological Station ( Ha Nam ) 39.3 degrees Celsius. Humidity dropped to only 47-52%, causing a dry, uncomfortable feeling.
At noon on August 4, the heat on the streets of Hanoi was like fire hitting the skin. At noon, the center of Hanoi was much quieter than usual. The Hoan Kiem Lake area was sparsely populated.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, the cause of the heat wave is due to the strong activity of the hot low zone in the West, the divergent winds in the high altitude make the sky less cloudy, the sun lasts longer; combined with the foehn wind from the Northwest increases the heat effect.
However, from this afternoon, the low pressure trough causing thunderstorms in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North has begun to operate. From the evening of August 5, the rain will spread to the entire North. On August 5, Hanoi may have heavy rain. The mountainous areas will have very heavy rain. The heat wave will end on August 6.
