Central region creates new growth momentum from sea tourism

Lesson 1: Impressive developments

The Vietnam tourism development strategy to 2030 has identified sea and island tourism as one of the four main product lines with advantages of Vietnam tourism. Possessing many favorable conditions for developing sea and island tourism, the provinces and cities in the central region have initially found a suitable direction to exploit the potential and advantages, becoming a growth pole of the tourism industry.

Located in the heart of the central region, with favorable conditions in terms of transport infrastructure, weather, climate and high-quality human resources, in recent years, Da Nang city has become the leading locality in the country in developing sea tourism, thereby creating attraction and connection with other localities.

Turn potential into advantage

In 2024, Da Nang city will bring tourists a series of unique events and festivals such as: Vietnam-Brazil football festival 2024, Da Nang international fireworks festival, international street art festival, Da Nang Asian film festival... Recently, many new tourism products in each phase have been launched to serve the needs of tourists such as: water music performance, jet ski performance, flyboard with sound effects, light and fireworks, opening of Bach Dang walking street and piloting night services on Nguyen Van Troi bridge and the park on the east bank of Nguyen Van Troi bridge.

Especially the Thua Thien Hue-Da Nang tourist train program "Connecting Central Heritage" with many unique experiences. Chairman of Da Nang Tourism Association Cao Tri Dung shared: "The Vietnam-Brazil football festival event is the perfect start for this year's beach tourism season and creates the premise for Da Nang to become a desirable destination for sports tourism in the near future".

As a locality in the key economic region of the central region, Quang Nam province has a coastline of more than 125 km, with many beautiful and famous beaches such as: Cua Dai, An Bang, Tam Thanh, Bai Rang... along with many islands near the shore, which are great resources for developing sea and island tourism. To develop sea tourism, Quang Nam has invested tens of thousands of billions of VND in developing the tourism infrastructure system. In particular, since the Cua Dai bridge across the Thu Bon river and the coastal route connecting Hoi An city to Chu Lai airport, Nui Thanh district were put into use, it has created a breakthrough in socio-economic development in the eastern region, opening up new opportunities for developing sea tourism.

Previously, most of the tourist facilities and service networks serving tourists were concentrated in the Hoi An area (north of Thu Bon River), but since the large coastal road was put into use, it has attracted many businesses to invest in building large-scale tourist facilities south of Thu Bon River.

Typical examples include: Nam Hoi An-Hoiana complex resort, Tui Blue Nam Hoi An, Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An... providing world-class amenities, contributing to attracting and "holding" tourists to visit, experience and stay in Quang Nam for longer periods. Currently, these large-scale resorts are all seamlessly connected to Chu Lai airport, Da Nang international airport, Ky Ha port and Cua Dai tourist seaport, making them very convenient for tourists to visit.

In the north central region, Quang Binh is not only famous for its majestic cave system but also has a coastal sand strip of more than 116 km long with many beautiful, pristine beaches, clear water, and fine sand. The coastal terrain creates many interesting and attractive landscapes such as Ngang Pass, Vung Chua scenic spot, Yen Island and Dragon Cape in the Hoanh Son range jutting out into the sea. Besides relaxing in the clear blue water when coming to the beaches in Quang Binh, visitors can also experience other interesting activities such as sand sliding, using ATVs on sand dunes; squid fishing at night; enjoying fresh seafood just caught...

In recent times, on the coastal sandy land, Quang Binh province has invested in building and completing infrastructure such as roads and electricity to help investors implement large-scale tourism and resort projects such as: FLC golf course complex, high-end resort and entertainment, Wyndham, Pullman, Vinpearl hotels...

In particular, from a white sand area on the other side of Nhat Le River, Bao Ninh peninsula has now become a coastal city associated with famous resort services of Quang Binh. According to the Department of Tourism of Quang Binh province, marine tourism plays a very important role in the tourism industry of the province. Every year, the number of tourists coming to Quang Binh choosing marine tourism tends to increase and accounts for more than 70% of the total number of tourists coming to Quang Binh. Revenue from marine tourism activities accounts for a relatively high proportion of the total tourism revenue of the province.

Many featured products

With the goal of developing into a high-end eco-tourism and sea resort center and aiming to become a leading tourist destination in Asia, Da Nang is focusing on implementing many synchronous tourism development solutions, including promoting cooperation with Thua Thien Hue-Quang Nam-Quang Binh and Hanoi, expanding cooperation with other provinces and cities such as Can Tho, Hai Phong, Da Lat... Recently, with the support of the railway industry, Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue province put into operation the Da Nang-Thua Thien Hue tourist train called "Connecting Central Heritage".

This is considered a new tourism product that not only connects the traffic of the two localities, but also brings interesting experiences to tourists when coming to two ancient and modern tourist cities. General Secretary of the Da Nang Tourism Association Ho Thanh Tu assessed that the Thua Thien Hue - Da Nang tourist train put into operation has brought tourists the opportunity to experience the beautiful soft coastal route of Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue, tourists have many options to participate in the tour connecting the central heritage journey. This product is suitable for the international tourist market to Da Nang (inbound tourists), especially tourists from the Western European market who love to experience and explore.

Also in Da Nang, there is a new tourism product that few places have, which is “wedding tourism destination”. Following the wedding of bride Kashmera and groom Inderdeep (India), which took place from January 19 to 21, 2024 with nearly 500 guests, at the Sheraton Grand Danang Resort, this beautiful coastal city welcomed two more Indian couples to hold their wedding in February 2024.

Mr. Dhinesh Rajarathinam, CEO of Dated Luxury Weddings Consulting and Event Organization Company Limited, which organizes weddings of Indian brides and grooms in Da Nang, said: “In 2024, we received requests for wedding consultation for about 30 international couples. Particularly for couples from India, we organized weddings for 6-8 couples this year.”

Similarly, the Quang Nam tourism industry is also making efforts to create new and diverse tourism products to serve tourists during the summer. Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province Nguyen Thanh Hong said that the province has recently organized a tourism stimulus program with the theme "Quang Nam - Green Heritage" taking place from May to November 2024, including two phases; in which, phase one "Quang Nam - Summer Emotions" from May to August and phase two "Golden Season of Quang Nam" from September to the end of November 2024.

This stimulus program attracted more than 100 tourism businesses in the province to participate with many unique tourism product packages and preferential price policies along with high-quality services. Many new tourism product packages immediately attracted attention and tourists after being launched, such as: three-day, two-night packages, with a journey to experience relaxation at luxury hotels and freely visit famous destinations: Hoi An Ancient Town, My Son Temple Complex, Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve, Vinwonder Nam Hoi An, Bay Mau Coconut Forest; high-class beach resort packages, golf...

After a period of stagnation due to environmental incidents, Quang Binh's sea tourism has recovered strongly. According to the Quang Binh Department of Tourism, coastal tourism infrastructure is still the place with the highest standard resorts in the province. Even in the tourism industry, sea tourism workers account for the highest proportion, at more than 60%. Entering this year's tourist season, along with urging the acceleration of the implementation of resorts and sports entertainment at beach tourist destinations, the Quang Binh Department of Tourism has coordinated with businesses to develop sea sports services, such as: windsurfing, jet skiing, parasailing, sailing; river tourism products and some night entertainment services on the beach.

Put into operation since the summer of 2022, the Blue Sea QB tourism model is quite successful in exploiting the space of the sandy beach on Nhat Le beach, bringing many impressions to visitors. Ms. Ngo Thanh Hien, representative of Blue Sea, said that the facility has invested in many more services and "put on a new coat" for the check-in space. Visitors come here to enjoy drinks, listen to music, and freely immerse themselves in the vast and sparkling Nhat Le beach space, in the caress of each Dong Hoi south wind.

In particular, located on the coastal sand area in the south of Quang Binh province are giant wind turbines interspersed among the rolling sand dunes, nestled between clear natural lakes. That beautiful and romantic scene is an ideal check-in location for tourists when coming to Quang Binh. Currently, with the "Hai Ninh Sea Route" tour, visitors can experience an open space with white sand, golden sunshine, clear blue lakes and giant "wind turbines", explore the daily life of the gentle, simple coastal people and enjoy the fresh specialties of Quang Binh's coastal villages.
