The water pipe connection slipped at about 3:30 p.m. on May 13.

The incident was identified as the exposed joint between the HDPE pipe and the steel water pipe. Mr. Ninh Thai Viet, Director of Water Supply Branch No. 1, Lao Cai Province Water Supply Joint Stock Company, said that during the pipeline construction process, the above incident occurred when testing the water pressure. The incident caused local water loss in some areas in the south of the city.

After about 20 minutes, the drainage problem was controlled so that the management unit could focus on fixing it. Water supply through this pipeline resumed at 7:30 p.m. on May 13.

According to Mr. Viet, this is one of two water supply pipelines from Coc San Water Plant to the southern area of the city. Previously, the pipeline went through Coc San stream, but after the historic flood in September 2024, it was destroyed, so Lao Cai Water Supply Joint Stock Company created a replacement pipeline on a specialized bridge across the stream. During the pipeline construction, the above incident occurred, and the water supply was interrupted for nearly 5 hours.

The connection and troubleshooting took about 5 hours.

Coc San Water Plant is located on a high hill, providing 20,000 - 25,000 m3 of domestic water per day and night for the southern area of the city, including Bac Cuong, Nam Cuong, Bac Lenh, Pom Han and Binh Minh wards. Normally, incidents causing water supply interruptions at Coc San Water Plant occur during rainy and flood seasons, not related to pipeline construction like this time.
