During the 10th grade admission season in Nghe An province, class 9G of Dang Thai Mai Secondary School had 34/41 students admitted to specialized classes in Math, Literature, English, Physics, Chemistry, and IT of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted.
Among them, Vuong Hoang Nhi is the valedictorian of the English class, with a total score of 55 points, and also has the highest score in the specialized subject exam with 18 points.
In addition, the class has 5 salutatorians including Tran Phu Hao - salutatorian for Chemistry, Nguyen Gia Quoc Anh - salutatorian for Information Technology, Nguyen Cong Liem - salutatorian for Physics, Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - salutatorian for Literature, Nguyen Thuc Gia Vu - salutatorian for Mathematics; Bach Minh Thu passed two specialized schools, Phan Boi Chau and Natural Sciences .
Sharing with VietNamNet , Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Nhan, homeroom teacher of class 9G, Dang Thai Mai Secondary School (Vinh City, Nghe An) said she was very happy and proud to continuously receive admission news from her students.
During her time working at this school, this is the group of students that Ms. Nhan is in charge of that has achieved so many high achievements.
According to Ms. Nhan, this achievement is due to the students' solid starting point. Before that, they all had to go through an entrance exam to assess their abilities, so most of them have the qualities and foundation. In addition, the parents of the class are very close and accompany their children.
“The students themselves also try hard and always put pressure on themselves. They all compete with each other in a healthy way, are willing to share and form groups to study together,” said Ms. Nhan.
Teaching good students, according to Ms. Nhan, will have special problems, sometimes giving teachers a "headache" no less than teaching weak students.
“Some students understand the lesson right away when listening to lectures, so they are subjective, sometimes making regrettable mistakes when doing the test. Therefore, before each exam, teachers have to remind students to be more careful in their presentation. For example, in the 10th grade entrance exam, although this result was quite high, but with the class’s ability, if they were more careful, the result could have been even higher,” said Ms. Nhan.
Besides, according to Ms. Nhan, when teaching students with good abilities and strong personalities, teachers themselves must become “leaders and idols” so that students will listen and respect them. Ms. Nhan often chooses to “conquer” students by seeing them as friends, ready to listen and share.
“Later, they will grow up and become ‘adults’. We must respect them and teach them wholeheartedly. Although no one can predict the outcome, when we teach with all our heart, we have no regrets,” she said.
Ms. Nhan said she was very happy when her students understood what her teachers were trying to convey. “There was a math competition before, and each student who won a medal was awarded a teddy bear. A student from class 9G, when seeing another teacher holding a teddy bear in the school yard, said he wanted to win a medal so he could bring the teddy bear back to give to her. That was also a joy in her career,” Ms. Nhan recalled, adding that teachers must understand each student’s personality, thereby providing them with their own guidance and timely encouragement.
Thanks to the guidance and direction of teachers, in the provincial excellent student competition, class 9G also achieved many achievements with 19 students winning prizes, including 2 valedictorians in the provincial excellent student competition in English and Math.
Dang Thai Mai Secondary School is the only school in Vinh city that has organized entrance capacity assessment for many years because the number of registered students is always higher than the assigned quota.
This year, the school has 7 valedictorians taking the entrance exam for Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, including: Physics, IT, Literature, History, Geography (2 valedictorians), and English. This is also the school with the most valedictorians taking the entrance exam for specialized schools in Nghe An province.
