TP – Today (September 12), heavy rain continues to occur in the Northeast, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh , gradually decreasing in other areas in the North. Floods in the upper reaches of rivers gradually decrease but remain at very high levels. Floods in the Northern Delta have peaked, with the risk of widespread flooding lasting for another 1-2 days in many provinces and cities in the North.

Floods cover most of the North

Yesterday (September 11), the North continued to witness many record-breaking floods. At 3:00 p.m. yesterday, the flood on the Red River in Hanoi reached 11.23m, the highest flood level in the past 20 years here, since 2004. Most of the major rivers such as the Thao River in Yen Bai, the Lo River, the Cau River, the Luc Nam River, the Thai Binh River, the Hoang Long River, and the Thai Binh River have all exceeded alert level 3.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this is a very rare widespread flood in the North, many provinces and cities suffered heavy damage from this flood.

Mr. Vo Van Hoa, Director of the Northern Midlands and Delta Hydrometeorological Station, added that Thai Nguyen has never recorded such severe flooding since monitoring data began. In Bac Giang, this year's flooding is equivalent to the historic floods in 2008 and 1986, which caused prolonged inundation and huge socio-economic losses.

Hai Duong and Hung Yen evacuated hundreds of people outside the dike.

On September 11, the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Hung Yen province issued a level 3 alert on the left dike of the Red River, with the water level at the Hung Yen hydrological station exceeding 7m. At the same time, it requested the districts of Van Giang, Khoai Chau, Kim Dong, Hung Yen city and relevant departments to continue guarding the dike according to the alert level; patrolling, detecting and promptly handling incidents. Prepare materials, vehicles and human resources according to the local dike protection and disaster prevention plan according to the "4 on-site" motto. Nguyen Hoan

Today's forecast is that floods on rivers will change slowly and at very high levels. Of which, Thuong River, Luc Nam River, Hoang Long River are still at alert level 3, while Cau River and Thai Binh River continue to rise above alert level 3. Regarding heavy rain, today and tonight, rain will be concentrated mainly in the Northeast, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh with rainfall of 20-40mm, some places over 80mm.

According to Mr. Vo Van Hoa, Director of the Northern Midlands and Delta Hydrometeorological Station, due to the heavy rain that continued yesterday and today, the flood on the rivers is at a very high level and changing slowly, so in the next 1-2 days, many provinces and cities in the North will continue to be flooded, including: Lang Son, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Bac Giang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Hoa Binh, leading to a very high risk of flash floods and landslides.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting especially noted that today, the water level at downstream stations of the Red River-Thai Binh River system rose to alert level 3 and above alert level 3. The entire low-lying areas along the river and alluvial areas outside the main dike of Hanoi, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, and Ninh Binh continue to be deeply submerged in water, forecast to last for at least the next 1-2 days.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from around September 13, the Central Highlands and the South are likely to experience heavy rain.

Today, Hanoi is forecast to have scattered showers and thunderstorms in some places. Floods on the Red River are changing slowly and remaining at alert level 2. In addition, flood waters on intra-provincial rivers such as Bui River, Tich River, and Ca Lo River continue to remain above alert level 3.

Due to the impact of rising flood waters on rivers, riverside areas, and outside the dikes of Hoan Kiem, Ba Dinh, Long Bien, Tay Ho, Bac Tu Liem districts and Chuong My, Ung Hoa, Phuc Tho, Son Tay, My Duc, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc, Gia Lam, Dong Anh and Ha Dong districts are at risk of deep flooding in the next 1-2 days.
