Na Khe focuses on increasing people's income

BHG - Na Khe is one of the four border communes of Yen Minh district. Over the past years, the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the commune have united and overcome difficulties, bringing the local socio-economic development.

As a purely agricultural commune, agricultural and forestry production is still the main economic development sector of Na Khe, ensuring food security while increasing income and improving people's lives. Currently, the total planting area of ​​the commune is over 1,400 hectares, the total food output is over 3,100 tons, the average food per capita is 666 kg/year, the average agricultural land production value is 44 million VND/ha. In addition to food crops, in the past 5 years, the Party Committee of the commune has focused on directing people to increase the conversion of crop and livestock structures to increase economic value. As a result, over 130 hectares of ineffective corn and hill gardens have been converted to crops such as: 29 hectares of pink bananas, 30.8 hectares of pears and Tam Hoa plums, 78 hectares of star anise and cinnamon. At the same time, it has maintained the care and exploitation of over 156 hectares of seedless persimmons, 20 hectares of watermelons, cucumbers, etc.

Located at the headwaters of the Mien River, forest protection, afforestation to cover bare hills, water conservation, and water environment protection are among the important tasks of Na Khe. Therefore, in recent years, the commune has implemented well the policies on payment for forest environmental services, forest protection and forest fire prevention and fighting, and has not allowed forests to be cut down. In the past 4 years, the commune has not had any forest fires and has planted over 40 hectares of new forest, increasing forest cover to 44%.

Focusing on developing livestock, increasing income, and helping people sustainably reduce poverty is the highest goal in Na Khe's economic development. In recent years, the number of livestock and poultry in the commune has increased rapidly, with many commercial livestock models being formed. By the end of 2024, the commune had 7,560 livestock, nearly 26,000 poultry, nearly 490 honey bee hives, and developed 4 concentrated livestock farms (3 pig farms and 1 chicken farm), the proportion of livestock in the agricultural structure increased by an average of 3 - 5%/year... Contributing to raising the average income to 32.3 million VND/person/year, the average annual poverty reduction rate reached 6%.

Mr. Vang Thi Chin, Then Phung village shared: With the encouragement of the commune, my family focused on raising local black pigs and goats to develop the economy; regularly maintaining about 2 sows and 20 pigs. Each year, we sell nearly 2 tons of pigs, earning over 100 million VND, so our life has gradually improved.

Not only focusing on economic development, in the past 5 years, the commune has called for investment attention from the district, integrated resources from national target programs and mobilized people to join hands, contribute land and labor to build rural concrete roads. Thereby, the commune has been allocated funds to invest in 5 concrete road projects to the center of the villages with a total length of over 12 km. In addition, Yen Minh district has approved investment in the road from National Highway 4C to border marker 345 with a total length of 14 km, scale of grade 5 mountainous roads, total cost of nearly 20 billion VND. To build the roads, Na Khe commune mobilized thousands of working days, over 10,000 m2 of land to open new dirt roads, and pour concrete roads. Up to now, 10/10 villages of the commune have concrete roads to the center.

Along with investment in developing transport infrastructure, through investment programs and projects of the State and the support and assistance of charitable organizations, the commune has invested in building essential infrastructure including 4 schools, 2 cultural houses, 3 hard bridges across streams and over 700 m2 of concrete school yards and cultural houses in Lung Bung, Then Phung, Na Po, Lung Vai, Na Kinh, Phu Ty 1 villages... Raising the total NTM criteria of the commune to 14/19 criteria.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, Na Khe commune has set 38 main targets to be implemented in various fields. Up to now, the commune has completed and exceeded 36/38 targets. "This is a great achievement, demonstrating the efforts and determination of the entire political system and the people in the area. It is also a premise for Na Khe and the whole country to confidently enter a new stage of development" - Secretary of the Party Committee of Na Khe commune, Vi Trung Viet, affirmed.
