Nguyen Gia Lam (12th grade student at Dien Hong Secondary and High School, Ho Chi Minh City) breathed a sigh of relief when he was able to write his entire Literature exam by himself.
Lam is a special candidate in the 2025 high school graduation exam in Ho Chi Minh City because he is missing all four limbs due to complications after surgery to treat congenital heart disease at the age of 2.
The male student said that in the past, in the mock exams, he read and asked the teacher for help writing, but it was difficult to express all the ideas, so this time he wanted to write it himself. "I think this year's literature exam is good, associated with the "era of rising up" of the nation. With the slow writing speed, I only wrote enough ideas without explaining too much. However, with the last argument, I was quite worried that it would not be enough 600 words as required," Lam said.
With today's test, Gia Lam expects to get 6-7 points.

At the exam site of Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School (District 10), Gia Lam, a separate exam room was arranged with two invigilators and one staff member to assist with writing the test.
My writing style is to hold the pen with both elbows, tilt it on the paper, and use the strength of my arms to write. "I find it better to write myself than to dictate to someone else. Expressing my ideas is not only difficult, but also takes more time to think," Lam said.
In multiple choice subjects such as Math, English and Computer Science, he will ask the staff to help him circle the answers. After the first exam, the male student said he was quite satisfied with his Literature test - the subject he was most worried about - and felt more confident for the next exams.

Talking about himself, Lam confided: "Since I realized it, I have not been sad because I am not healthy, but have tried hard to study so as not to worry my family and to be able to support myself in the future," Lam shared.

Since primary school, Lam has taken care of his personal hygiene and daily meals. His twin brother takes care of taking him to school. During class time, Lam relies on his friends to carry him when he wants to move. He writes his own lessons and can use the computer and phone with both hands and elbows.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Manh (Gia Lam's mother) said that Lam is very hard-working in his studies, especially for this year's high school exam with the dream of becoming a new graphic design student. "The two brothers love each other very much and always support each other in life as well as in study. I am quite worried but also believe that both children will do well," Ms. Manh added.

On the first day of the exam, Lam's twin brother took the exam at a different location, so his sister took him to school early to stabilize his mind and do his best on the test.

Lam was carried by volunteer students to the private exam room on the 2nd floor at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School.

Lam always remains optimistic because she is surrounded by love from her family, friends, teachers... Gia Lam plans to apply for admission to the Graphic Design major, using a combination of Information Technology - her favorite subject and also her strength. She hopes to be able to go to university to pursue a design career, thereby becoming financially independent.
