The Ministry of Education and Training said on September 2 that all four Vietnamese students participating in the 35th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) in 2023 won medals.

Among them, Nguyen Ngoc Dang Khoa, an 11th grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, won the gold medal.
Tran Xuan Bach, a 12th grader from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi , and Nguyen Duc Thang, an 11th grader from Hung Vuong High School for Gifted Students, Phu Tho province, both won silver medals.
Nguyen Quang Minh, a 12th grade student at the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences, University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, received a bronze medal.
The 35th IOI exam was held live from August 28 to September 4 in Szeged City, Hungary with the official participation of 351 candidates from 89 countries and territories.
As a result, 178 candidates won medals (30 gold medals, 58 silver medals and 90 bronze medals), accounting for 50.7% of the participating candidates, and 40 candidates were awarded Certificates of Merit.

According to the regulations of the IOI Council 2023, the exam has 2 official exam days. On each exam day, candidates will take a 5-hour computer programming test and solve 3 problems with rich content.
Results are automatically graded online by the system and live scorecards are published throughout the two exam days.
This year's exam is considered more difficult than previous years and has some unusual types of problems that require candidates to apply knowledge flexibly and be highly creative.
