(CPV) - On January 18, information from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital said that the hospital had just received another case of a patient with serious injuries caused by a homemade firecracker exploding.
The patient is a 16-year-old male from Nam Dinh , who was injured in an accident caused by a homemade firecracker exploding at 10 p.m. on January 16. The patient was transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital at 1 a.m. on January 17.
Dr. Bui Mai Anh, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery - Plastic Surgery - Aesthetics (Viet Duc Friendship Hospital) - the person who directly performed the surgery to reattach the patient's thumb said: The patient was admitted to the hospital in the following condition: conscious, right hand crushed with many wounds; finger 1 crushed, flat, cold, no bleeding; flexor tendons stretched out; dirty wound, high risk of infection. If the thumb cannot be saved, 80% of hand function will be lost, flexor tendons stretched out if not reattached, the finger's motor function will be poor.
Due to the firecracker accident, the soft tissue was crushed, and there was a high risk of blood clots after reattaching the finger. Doctors had to extend the forearm to find the central end of the severed flexor tendon and reattach it to the patient. The blood vessels in the finger were small and constricted, so doctors had to connect them with small stitches.
Currently, the patient can move his fingers gently, has warm pink fingers, and continues to be monitored and treated at the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery - Plastic Surgery - Aesthetics.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Ha, Head of the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery - Plastic Surgery - Aesthetics said: Although we have actively promoted the serious consequences of homemade fireworks, every time Tet approaches, more and more patients are hospitalized with serious injuries, affecting their lives and health, many cases have to suffer lifelong disabilities.
To prevent tragic accidents caused by firecrackers, doctors recommend that people strictly comply with legal regulations on the management and use of firecrackers, and not arbitrarily manufacture explosives or firecrackers that threaten the lives of themselves and those around them./.
