The province's power supply comes from two 220kV substations: the Vinh Yen substation with two 250MVA transformers and the Vinh Tuong substation with two 250MVA transformers. Vinh Phuc Power Company currently manages a 110kV grid system comprising 14 substations with 26 transformers, totaling 1,569MVA. In addition, there are two transformers with a total capacity of 103MVA located within the 220kV Vinh Tuong substation and one 110kV substation owned by a customer, with a total capacity of two 50MVA transformers.
According to the Vinh Phuc Power Company's assessment, in 2024, the maximum load capacity (Pmax) measured in the province was 865MW, approaching the maximum capacity of the 220kV transformers throughout the province; the highest daily electricity consumption recorded was 17 million kWh, a 10% increase compared to 2023. In 2025, the province's Pmax is expected to increase to 950-1,000MW, with the peak load during hot weather reaching 969MW, a 13% increase compared to 2024.
To ensure a safe and stable power supply, from 2024 to the present, Vinh Phuc Power Company has managed and implemented 37 power projects with a planned disbursement of 272.5 billion VND. By the end of 2024, the company had completed 20 out of 37 projects, including the construction and renovation of 108.2km of medium-voltage lines and 93.6km of low-voltage lines; the construction of 80 new substations with a total capacity of 29,160kVA; and the renovation and upgrading of 56 substations with a total capacity of 25,700kVA.
In particular, Vinh Phuc Power Company has completed the energization of two 110kV power grid projects in Vinh Yen and Phuc Yen; and successfully energized five key power projects including the Dong Soc 110kV transmission line and substation, the Tam Duong 110kV transmission line and substation, the Song Lo 110kV substation and branch line, the Yen Lac 110kV transmission line and substation, and the Yen Lac T1 + T2 transformers.
In addition, through the deployment of digital equipment and software, the company has automated the medium-voltage power grid loop, reducing the time required for switching on and off and isolating fault points; enhanced the application of technology in power grid inspection and maintenance, and live-line repair; and completed the upgrading of 112.2 km of medium-voltage lines and 217.6 km of low-voltage lines, exceeding the assigned plan.
To implement the electricity saving plan, load adjustment, and load shifting, Vinh Phuc Power Company has worked directly with large industrial customers with electricity consumption of 1 million kWh/year or more to disseminate information about the electricity supply plan and encourage the adoption of energy-saving and efficient electricity usage solutions.
The company encouraged customers to sign agreements to shift production times, avoiding peak hours from May to August, and to reduce power consumption when the electricity system experienced difficulties.
In addition, the company has signed electricity saving commitments with 100% of four customer groups: administrative and public services, public lighting, industrial production, and service businesses; established inspection teams to monitor electricity usage at production and business establishments, administrative and public service units, and recommended that people limit the simultaneous use of electrical equipment during peak hours.
To improve the reliability of electricity supply, especially during the peak hot season of 2025, Vinh Phuc Power Company has developed a plan for electricity supply in the province, approved by the Provincial People's Committee, covering scenarios of power shortages ranging from 5% to 50% of grid capacity when a national power shortage is announced. The company will manage and operate the power grid according to the regulations of the Vietnam Electricity Group; strengthen inspections and timely repairs and maintenance of equipment on the power grid before the rainy season, storms, and hot weather.
Promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation in the management and operation of the power grid. This includes increasing the automation rate of medium-voltage power grids using DMS/DAS to automatically detect and isolate grid faults and quickly restore power; building 110kV substations using digital technology and applying AI technology in technical management to analyze and detect faults early.
Actively coordinate with relevant units to accelerate the progress of key power grid infrastructure investment projects in the province, focusing on completing the energization of the 110kV Vinh Yen - Hoi Hop - Vinh Tuong transmission line, the 500kV Vinh Yen substation project and the connecting transmission line in May 2025.
Continuing to implement the electricity saving plan, load adjustment and load shifting will help reduce pressure on the power system during peak hours, ensure safe and stable electricity supply, contribute to achieving the province's socio-economic development goals, and aim towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions according to the Government 's roadmap.
