Mr. Cung's family has a tradition of raising egg-laying chickens for more than 50 years. With the income from raising 300-500 chickens, his father raised 10 children. After completing his military service in 1991, Mr. Cung took over the family business. Initially, he raised chickens on a small scale and gradually expanded. Currently, he raises more than 40,000 chickens, laying about 18,000 eggs per day. He is expanding the area of the barn, increasing the number to about 60,000 chickens.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cung (Tan Lan commune, Can Duoc district) applies the cold farm chicken raising method so the egg quality is guaranteed.
For more than 5 years, Mr. Cung has been raising chickens in a cold barn, applying science and technology in heat treatment, ensuring that the temperature in the barn is maintained at a suitable level for the chickens. The cost of a cold barn (sealed) is 20% higher than an open barn, but the results are outstanding.
Mr. Cung said: “Raising in an open farm, the temperature changes erratically, the chickens are susceptible to illness and need to use antibiotics, affecting the quality of eggs and the health of consumers. Cold farms overcome these disadvantages. The chickens are healthy, less sick, the eggs are large, even, and beautiful, so they compete well in the market. Thanks to that, income also increases.”
Currently, he has ordered imported egg sorting machines to reduce manual sorting, so that the products delivered to consumers are of better quality. Currently, Chin Cung chicken eggs are available in many provinces and cities across the country and sold in a number of supermarket chains. He is completing procedures to be recognized as an OCOP product.
According to the Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Tan Lan Commune - Le Thanh Binh, the whole commune currently has more than 150 households raising laying hens. Mr. Cung and many other households have joined together to help, exchange and learn from each other’s experiences in order to maintain the brand and enhance the value of local products.
Mr. Cung added: "Over the past years, raising egg-laying chickens in Tan Lan commune has encountered some difficulties, but thanks to the government's attention and support, we feel secure in expanding investment and developing our family economy ."
In animal husbandry, waste disposal is very important because it can pollute the environment. Aware of this, Mr. Cung hires someone to clean the barn every month. The chicken manure is disposed of before being transported.
Currently, he is researching and connecting with many sources to centrally process chicken manure for his farm and many other farms. “The difficulty is finding a location and treatment techniques, I hope to receive support from the State,” said Mr. Cung.
Mr. Cung is a good farmer and businessman at the provincial level. With the economic development, he has the opportunity to participate in local social security activities. He also takes good care of the workers at the chicken farm./.
