"We consider this another hostile step by the Moldovan leadership to join the Western campaign against Russia. This action is aimed at completely destroying Russian-Moldovan relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry commented on November 24.
The ministry also announced that Russia would respond, but did not specify the response measures.
The warning came after Moldova's parliament voted in favour of a law to comply with EU sanctions against Russia as part of the country's conditions for joining the union.
Among the provisions in the law are provisions relating to actions taken against individuals and organizations subject to Western sanctions against Russia. The law is also aimed at protecting against undue influence by business tycoons.
The European Commission this month proposed to start accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine and will raise the issue at the EU Summit in December.
