Earlier the same day, Ukrainian military officials also confirmed that Russian forces had conducted several airstrikes overnight against Kiev, but stressed that all missiles had been intercepted and destroyed.

* In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that during a meeting in Moscow on May 26, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Special Envoy for Ukraine, Li Hui, discussed prospects for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Previously, Mr. Ly Huy had a working trip to many capitals of European countries, including Kiev.

During a meeting with European Union officials in Brussels on May 25, Mr. Li Hui emphasized that China always maintains an objective and fair stance on the Ukraine issue, as well as actively promotes peace negotiations.

* On May 26, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that in a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, he reaffirmed his readiness to establish peace negotiations with both warring parties in Ukraine.

On Twitter, the Brazilian leftist leader stressed: "I reiterate Brazil's readiness, together with India, Indonesia and China, to dialogue with both sides of the conflict towards peace."

President Lula da Silva said he had thanked the Russian leader for his invitation to attend the economic forum in Saint Petersburg, but declined to attend because he "cannot visit Russia at the moment".

Meanwhile, the Kremlin announced that in the above phone call, President Putin confirmed that Russia is open to dialogue on the Ukraine crisis.
