Ho Chi Minh City and the Netherlands promote economic cooperation towards sustainable development

(HTV) - The cooperative relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and the Netherlands is entering a new stage of development, with a focus on innovation, green transformation and connecting European value chains.

On the evening of November 12, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Cuong attended and spoke at the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Netherlands Business Association in Vietnam . The event was attended by Ms. Aukje de Vries - Minister of Foreign Trade and Development of the Netherlands, and many representatives of businesses from both countries.

The 25th anniversary of the Dutch Business Association in Vietnam is an opportunity to look back on 25 years of effective cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the Dutch Business Association.

Speaking at the ceremony, the leader of Ho Chi Minh City affirmed that the event is an important occasion to look back on 25 years of effective cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the Netherlands Business Association , and at the same time open up a new direction of cooperation in the context of a strong global economic shift. Currently, the Netherlands is the largest European investor in Ho Chi Minh City , with a total investment capital of more than 5.5 billion USD and a two-way trade turnover of 2.4 billion USD in just the first 6 months of 2025 .

Currently, the Netherlands is Vietnam's largest Western investor and leading European trading partner.

Ho Chi Minh City hopes that the Netherlands Business Association will continue to accompany it in key areas such as finance, logistics, green transformation, digital transformation, infrastructure development and semiconductor industry - areas considered to be new growth drivers for the city in the coming time.

Both sides expect this to be an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in the European value chain.

Minister Aukje de Vries emphasized that the Netherlands' goal is to build a sustainable and balanced trade relationship , promoting exports in parallel with long-term technology transfer. Currently, the Netherlands is the largest Western investor and leading European trade partner of Vietnam .

In the new phase, both sides expect this to be an opportunity for Dutch businesses to penetrate the rapidly growing Vietnamese market. At the same time, it is also an opportunity for Vietnamese businesses to participate more deeply in the European value chain , aiming for sustainable and comprehensive economic development .
