Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych on April 27 accused the Russian military of carrying out a large-scale missile attack on the southern Ukrainian city. According to Mr. Sienkevych, at least four Kalibr cruise missiles were aimed at the city on the night of April 26 and the morning of April 27.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed the attack. According to Mr. Zelensky, the Ukrainian missile attack caused great damage to the Ukrainian side.
"At night, the enemy attacked Mykolaiv with four Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea. These precision weapons hit several private homes, a historic building and a high-rise building. As of this moment, at least one person has been killed and 23 others have been injured. My condolences to the deceased and I wish the injured a speedy recovery," Zelensky wrote on his personal Twitter.
The Mykolaiv city rapid response force was mobilized to extinguish the fire and deal with the aftermath. Mykolaiv authorities warned residents to be vigilant as the risk of similar Russian raids in the future remains very high.

Earlier, in an update on the situation on April 15, the Russian Defense Ministry said that its military had carried out a precision strike on the port in the Ochakiv area of Mykolaiv. The attack caused heavy damage to the port area. In particular, a warehouse containing Ukrainian unmanned suicide boats was destroyed.
According to the military website Avia-pro , a significant number of suicide boats have just been transferred by the Ukrainian army to this warehouse in preparation for plans to attack Russia's naval base in the Black Sea.
The governor of Ukraine's Mykolaiv region, Vitaly Kim, later confirmed the attack on the port of Ochakiv. According to Kim, Moscow used multiple rocket launchers and extended-range howitzers in the attack. The head of the Mykolaiv region in southern Ukraine also admitted that many important infrastructure facilities at the port of Ochakiv were severely damaged.
With its strategic location as a gateway to the Black Sea and located between the breakaway Kherson region and the port city of Odessa, Mykolaiv has been repeatedly targeted by heavy Russian weapons attacks in recent times. Previously, on April 10, a Ukrainian military base in Mykolaiv was also targeted by Russian troops.
