Everyone knows that reading is the "universal key" that provides each of us with a solid foundation and expands our understanding to reach the vast ocean of knowledge. However, it seems we are indifferent to books, or if we do read them, it's reluctantly. According to statistics, the average Vietnamese person reads only 4 books per year (including textbooks).

Those who frequently access books are mainly students, teachers, and officials, who seek books to support their studies and professional work. A few truly passionate individuals spend money buying books for collection, research, and knowledge and skill development. Some turn to books for entertainment, such as reading comic books or famous literary works. Others simply follow trends, buying books because they see others reading them, but quickly get bored and discard them in a corner of the cupboard.

Nowadays, reading culture, especially among young people, is being affected by the diversity of multimedia and social media. Consequently, reading culture and the habit of reading books are gradually disappearing. Instead of reading a book, many people choose to browse social media to watch entertainment programs. Others are influenced by their lives and have little time for reading.

To foster a reading culture , everyone needs to cultivate a reading habit and seek out interesting things through reading. Forming a reading habit begins in each family, with parents setting a good example for their children; schools and teachers promote and introduce books, highlighting the importance of reading to students and igniting a passion for reading.

Reading is a process of reflection and thinking about each word the author has conveyed. Through reading, people accumulate knowledge, learn about manners, culture, history, and many other things. Each individual should cultivate the habit of reading and learning valuable lessons from books. In doing so, they contribute to maintaining and spreading a reading culture.
