Attending the conference were members of the Provincial Party Executive Committee: Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Hoang Quoc Viet - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; and representatives of relevant departments and branches.
Forest cover rate reaches nearly 60%
In 2024, the forestry sector of Nghe An province will face many difficulties due to the impact of climate change, extreme weather, high material prices and unstable forest product consumption markets.
However, thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions for direction and management and close adherence to assigned targets and tasks, the forestry sector has achieved many positive results, contributing positively to the overall growth of the agricultural sector and rural development.

In 2024, the province will plant 22,768 hectares of forest; produce more than 43 million seedlings of various types and protect 962,230 hectares of existing forest area. The forest coverage rate will reach 59%. The province has effectively implemented the policy of payment for forest environmental services with total revenue from these services reaching over 197 billion VND.
To date, Nghe An has had 32,630.24 hectares of forest certified for sustainable forest management according to FSC standards, an increase of nearly 32% compared to 2023. Forest allocation associated with land allocation and granting of forest land use right certificates has also achieved positive results, with 1,714 households and 81 communities being allocated 17,322.22 hectares of forest land, reaching 50.7% of the plan.

In forest protection, the sector has organized more than 4,550 patrols and inspections; detected and handled 420 cases of forestry law violations. The forest area is basically well protected, with no hot spots or serious incidents. The application of information technology and remote sensing images has been promoted to identify areas of forest degradation and promptly propose solutions.
Coordination among forces such as Forest Rangers, Police, Military, Border Guard, local authorities and forest owners is increasingly close and effective.
Currently, the province has 45 wood processing enterprises, 98 non-timber forest product production enterprises, 10,410 individual production and trading establishments of wood and non-timber forest products, along with 3 biomass pellet factories. The export turnover value reached 304 million USD, the growth rate of forestry production value reached 7.05%.

In 2024, the whole province only had 5 forest fires, a decrease of 9 cases compared to 2023. The mobilized firefighting force consisted of 1,515 people, mainly local forces such as forest owners, forest rangers, militia, fire prevention and fighting forces, police, district military, local organizations and people living near the forest.
In 2025, Nghe An Forestry Department has set many key tasks to continue to maintain and promote the achieved results. In particular, the top priority is to continue to direct the propaganda work of socializing forestry, contributing to protecting and stabilizing the existing natural forest area, effectively preventing acts of encroachment on forest resources.
At the same time, promote afforestation, improve the quality of seed sources, exploit planted forests reasonably, combine with the application of technology in processing and consumption to increase the value of products from planted forests.
The industry also aims to effectively implement mechanisms and policies in the forestry sector, improve people's lives, reduce poverty, create jobs, and contribute to the completion of assigned socio-economic targets.
Stronger solutions needed to protect forests
At the conference, district delegates presented opinions and recommendations to remove difficulties in large timber plantation, forest product processing, forest seedlings and output for raw acacia products.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Nguyen Van De - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and commended the achievements of the forestry sector in recent times.
He also frankly pointed out the shortcomings and limitations such as: forest fires and small-scale forest exploitation still occur in some localities; the situation of secretly cutting down natural forests and encroaching on forest land still occurs, especially in areas with poor forests and mixed bamboo-wood forests.
In addition, the progress of implementing programs such as reforestation, greenhouse gas emission reduction payment agreements (ERPA), as well as the implementation of contents of the High-Tech Forestry Zone is still slow and facing many difficulties. The work of building a digital database on forest resources and applying information technology in forest management has not yet reached the set progress.

To successfully complete the tasks in 2025, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested relevant levels, sectors, localities and units to focus on implementing a number of key contents such as: Strengthening inspection and supervision in areas with high risk of violations, especially in Que Phong, Tuong Duong, Con Cuong and Ky Son districts.
Proactively deploy forest fire prevention and fighting plans before the hot season; continue to strengthen forces, means and equipment for this work. Review and develop plans to implement national forestry planning in the province.
Prioritize the implementation of policies to expand the area of forests certified for sustainable forest management. At the same time, focus on developing the area of forest plantations serving large timber business, thereby improving the productivity, quality and use value of forests.
In particular, it is necessary to promote the improvement of the quality of natural forests, effectively exploit the multi-use values that forest ecosystems bring, contributing to the development of sustainable forestry economy and protection of the ecological environment.

Speed up the progress of updating forest status into the National Database; complete the digitization of the province's forest map by 2025. Apply remote sensing technology and satellite images to monitor forest developments and control violations more effectively.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested all levels, sectors and localities to continue promoting the spirit of initiative and creativity, overcoming shortcomings, synchronously and drastically implementing solutions, striving to exceed the targets set by the forestry sector in 2025.
