On the morning of May 7, at Duu Lau Communal House (Duu Lau Ward, Viet Tri City, Phu Tho Province), Duu Lau Ward People's Committee coordinated with Masan Consumer Goods Joint Stock Company to organize a culinary heritage event of three regions to offer to Prince Lang Lieu.
The event is not only a spiritual ceremony but also a place where the culinary cultural heritage of the three regions converges, arranged in the shape of a map of Vietnam, demonstrating the solidarity and richness of national cuisine.
Culinary heritage of three regions converges
At Duu Lau communal house yard, 180 trays of offerings were meticulously prepared by artisans and chefs from all three regions of the North, Central and South. Each tray is a work of art, recreating typical dishes of each region.
From banh chung and banh giay of the North, to mam tom cha and banh beo of the Central region, or banh xeo and goi cuon of the South, all blend together to create a vibrant culinary picture.
In particular, the offering trays are arranged in the shape of a map of Vietnam, with the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa recreated with special dishes, affirming the love for the homeland of the sea and islands.
180 trays of offerings arranged in a map of Vietnam symbolize the unity and culinary diversity of the regions.
The event not only honors culinary values but also connects the legendary story of Prince Lang Lieu - the 18th son of King Hung, who created Banh Chung and Banh Day to offer to his ancestors. Through this, Lang Lieu conveyed the message of gratitude to the land, ancestors, and the spirit of family solidarity - the core values of the Vietnamese people.
Preserving and promoting culinary culture values
The story of Lang Lieu is not only a legend but also a source of inspiration for generations of Vietnamese people to preserve and promote the national culinary heritage.
According to Ms. Le Thi Thiet, President of the Nam Dinh Province Culinary Culture Association, this year, the atmosphere of the incense offering ceremony in memory of Prince Lang Lieu is more meaningful when gathering more than 180 trays of offerings from all over the country, contributing to preserving and honoring the identity of Vietnamese culinary culture.
“As a chef from the South, I am very happy to be here today with the community of culinary artists to honor the founder of Vietnamese cuisine, Prince Lang Lieu. This is not only a ceremony for us to express our gratitude to the founder of the profession, but also an opportunity for the Vietnamese culinary community to join hands to preserve and promote the quintessence of Vietnamese culinary culture through each dish,” said Mr. Ly Sanh, one of the founders of the Saigon Chefs Association.
Dishes from three regions converge
The artisans and chefs participating in the event also expressed their pride in contributing to preserving culinary culture.
Ms. Tran Thi Hong Loan, a culinary artist from Hue, said: “I am very happy to participate in the ceremony today. The program is very meaningful as it honors Prince Lang Lieu - who is considered the founder of Vietnamese cuisine and gathers artisans and chefs from all regions of the country to make a traditional offering tray with a message of solidarity and diversity of Vietnamese cultural identity.”
Similarly, Mr. Co Nhu Doi, representative of the Van Cu Pho Association, emphasized the importance of promoting culinary cultural values in the new context: “We learn from tradition, but also innovate to make Vietnamese dishes closer to the younger generation and international tourists. Our offerings today are created to suit today's customer tastes but still retain the flavor and cultural identity of local dishes.”
Spreading the cultural values of Duu Lau communal house
Duu Lau Communal House, located in Duu Lau Ward, Viet Tri City, is one of the important historical relics of Phu Tho Province, recognized as a provincial relic.
This place is not only a place to worship Lang Lieu but also a cultural center of the community, preserving the traditional values of the ancient land of Van Lang.
Offering to Prince Lang Lieu
According to Mr. Ta Van Thinh, the keeper of Duu Lau communal house, Duu Lau communal house has long been a symbol of gratitude and community cohesion.
“Every year, we organize festivals and events to remind people of their roots. This year’s 180-tray event, with the cooperation of the community, individuals and organizations, has brought a big step forward, bringing the culinary heritage of the three regions to the people of Phu Tho, domestic and international tourists, contributing to bringing Vietnamese culinary heritage further,” said Mr. Ta Van Thinh.
The event of 180 trays of offerings at Duu Lau communal house is not only a cultural activity but also an affirmation of the strong vitality of Vietnamese cuisine.
Through the talented hands of artisans and chefs, traditional dishes are not only preserved but also elevated, becoming a bridge between the past and the future, between generations of Vietnamese people, between Vietnam and the world.
