Bringing music to Europe is a great pride
This is the first time that Buc Tuong has organized an official tour in Europe. Can you share your feelings when bringing Buc Tuong's music to Vietnamese audiences in France, Germany and the Czech Republic?
- For me and my bandmates, this is a very special milestone. The Wall has been active for 30 years, performing in many places in the country and on several international stages, but this is the first time we have done an official tour in Europe.
It is a great pride to bring the music of The Wall to the Vietnamese community in France, Germany and the Czech Republic. We always believe that music has no borders, and rock - with its strength and sincerity - has its own unique, intense and attractive influence.
The most touching thing is that even though they are thousands of kilometers away from their homeland, Vietnamese audiences abroad still fully maintain their love for the music of Buc Tuong.
Many people have texted us, sent greetings, and shared memories associated with our songs - making this trip not only a musical journey, but also a reunion, an opportunity to meet like-minded people. We are very excited to live that feeling with the audience.

What did the Wall bring to Europe on this trip?
- We are not just bringing a night of music, but an emotional journey distilled from 30 years of music by The Wall. It will be familiar songs that have been associated with many generations of audiences, mixed with recent compositions - reflecting the band's journey of maturity.
We hope that through music, the audience will not only relive beautiful memories, but also feel more clearly the Vietnamese spirit, national pride and borderless love that music can bring.
How did audiences in France, Germany, and the Czech Republic receive The Wall on this tour?
- They were wonderful, warm, enthusiastic and supported the band with all their heart.
A Czech audience member texted me that she brought her children to see the show, and after the show her child became a fan of the band. The little girl commented: “I was so surprised, Mom, you guys play music just as good as an international band”, and then told her mother: “You must take me to the next show”.
Or there was a friend who drove nearly 480km from the Netherlands to be immersed in the night of The Wall in France, confiding that this show was like a dream. Those feelings made us choke up, adding motivation to the path we are on.

You have been with the band for more than a decade, going through many ups and downs with the members. What does The Wall mean to you?
- Yes, exactly 13 years, almost half of the 30-year journey of The Wall. Before that, I was also one of the members in the band's debut lineup at the University of Construction in 1995. For me, The Wall was a great opportunity.
If music is the biggest passion in life, then The Wall is the result of that passion. And when anyone asks what is the biggest success in his career so far - I always answer without thinking that it is The Wall.
After many years of working together, has the music of The Wall influenced your way of thinking or playing music?
- The music of The Wall in its 30-year journey is built from the artistic values of each period, but is always unified in a consistent spirit.
Our songs are about life experiences, about love - between people, between people and nature, between homeland and country.
It can be very ordinary, simple things, but sometimes it is heroic historical stories told through music. But above all, what we always pursue is optimism, noble ideals and the value of unceasing dedication to art.
It is these things that create the personality, shape the thinking and character of each brother in the band. It is a way of life with dreams, with ambitions, always dedicating to music and aiming for good things.

I am lucky to always have my wife's company.
Besides being a veteran guitarist, you are also known to your fans for your passion for “long journeys”. How did you start your love for backpacking?
- I was a student at the University of Construction, so after graduating, I worked in the field of transport infrastructure.
This job involves traveling, I often have to leave home, go to faraway lands where construction projects are under way. Perhaps that is why I gradually form a special love for the feeling of moving.
I love to set foot in new lands, not only to explore the world around me but also to find new emotions for myself.
Every trip, every land I pass through leaves me with its own impressions - sometimes it's a small mountain road, a sunny afternoon on the plateau, or simply the story of a person I meet along the way.
Go to explore the world around, to seek inspiration for creativity to change the environment and renew life.
Between your busy band schedule and your job as a manager at a large corporation, how do you arrange time for travel?
- It's really hard to find time and you'll definitely have to make trade-offs.
I usually plan early, take advantage of work transitions and try to finish work early to have time for trips.
Or a smarter way is to combine touring and business trips, which can be interspersed or extended for backpacking trips.
It is known that your wife is also a big fan of The Wall. Is music what brought you two together?
- Not exactly. Back then, her taste in music was very different, not even Rock. She and I met by chance, thanks to working in the construction industry.
Later, under the influence of her husband, she became an avid fan of Rock music as well as of The Wall.

Your wife always accompanies you on your musical journey and trips. That must be a great motivation for an artist?
- That's right. I feel very lucky to have her support and companionship in my musical journey over the years. The band's practice sessions continued until late at night before big shows, the nights spent sitting until almost dawn composing, recording, arranging music, and writing songs...
That was time I should have spent with my family. But she never complained. On the contrary, she was always there - encouraging and understanding.
My wife was present at most of The Wall's shows to cheer, to immerse herself in the music and to "burn" out with her friends in the fan club.
Every time I stand on stage, look down and see her below, I feel energized and inspired to perform better on stage.
So, during the trips together, which places left special memories for your family?
- There are so many trips and each journey leaves special memories. But if I had to choose a place in Vietnam that I remember the most, I would say Ha Giang. We have been to Ha Giang quite a few times but every time we set foot on this land at the head of the country, we are moved by the beautiful scenery and people here.
In 2020, my friends and I went to Ha Giang on my birthday and had a warm birthday evening in the northernmost land.
Three years later, in 2023, I returned to Ha Giang with the band Buc Tuong to record the program Co hen voi thanh xuan .
What was special was that this trip happened to be my wife’s birthday. That night, in Meo Vac, we held a small party to celebrate her birthday. I sat down to play the guitar and sang many songs dedicated to my partner - a simple but extremely memorable night…
