A high school girl in China has become a social media sensation after a viral video showed her calmly walking down the street with a shoulder pole carrying bags of luggage.

According to local media, the student, surnamed Liu, studied at the No. 2 High School in Guanyang County, Guilin City, Guangxi Province, China. After completing the gaokao - China's college entrance exam - Liu headed back to her hometown.

During the days of the gaokao, Liu and her mother rented a house near a testing site far from where her family lived.

When moving back to the countryside with her mother after the exam, Liu walked in front carrying bags of household items, while her mother walked behind, pulling a suitcase filled with things.

After the video went viral, Liu was praised by many netizens for her strong will. To avoid any misunderstandings, she assured the media that she was not alone in taking the important exam, and that her mother was always by her side.

Her father and brother are currently working far away so they cannot be there to encourage and support her directly. Sharing with the press, Liu's homeroom teacher said that in class, the female student has good academic performance, is always diligent, makes an effort and is proactive in her studies.

After the video went viral, many people offered to help Liu financially. A milk tea brand invited her to work part-time for them this summer.

A retired professor from Wuhan University in China also expressed his desire to sponsor Liu’s university education. “I see myself in this girl. I want to help Liu on her future studies,” said Professor Luo.

Liu, however, declined all offers of help, expressing gratitude but saying that she would find a summer job that suited her. Liu prioritized being with her family during the summer vacation, so that she could support her mother as much as possible in her daily life.

“My father and brother are currently working far away, leaving only my mother at home. She is old, so I don’t want to go far away. I plan to find a part-time job near home so I can be with my mother as much as possible,” Liu said.

Liu said she wants to study education to become a teacher. Despite the hardships her family has faced, Liu is grateful to her parents because there is no male preference in her family and her parents are always fair in their treatment of their children.

Even my parents pamper me more than my brother. For me, the warm affection of my family always makes me feel fulfilled and happy, regardless of the difficulties and deprivations that still exist in my life.
