For over a year, artist Hong Nga has been sick and suffering from severe dementia, unable to leave the house.
According to a recent video of Meritorious Artist Thoai My's visit, artist Hong Nga's health has seriously declined. She is visibly thinner, her face is pale, almost unrecognizable, and she cries and laughs abnormally.
During the meeting, artist Hong Nga's emotions kept changing and her mentality was unstable. She lost awareness of herself and her surroundings when she called Meritorious Artist Thoai My "child" and "sister".
"I'm also suffering a lot, grandma. I'm Hong Nga, now I have to quit my job. I'm so scared!", the artist told Meritorious Artist Thoai My.
Artist Hong Nga also showed signs of paranoia and unfounded fear. When Meritorious Artist Thoai My asked Hong Nga if she wanted to eat anything, she cried and said she didn't want to eat, afraid of being scolded. She was in her own house but was worried that others wouldn't let her stay. Later, she said: "This house isn't mine, they won't let me stay anywhere, it's terrible."
Although her memory and perception were severely affected, artist Hong Nga still remembered the lyrics as if they had been ingrained in her subconscious through many years of artistic activities. When she first heard Meritorious Artist Thoai My sing, she sang along and remembered many songs, with the right rhythm, the right voice, and even charmingly teased the people around her.
The person taking care of artist Hong Nga explained that her mixed emotions of crying and laughing were because she was watching a reformed opera on TV and singing along. When the person on TV "lost her part to sing", she burst into tears because she thought "her singing was taken away".
Artist Hong Nga was born in 1945, famous for many roles of the unique, flirtatious, and fragrant actresses. As a child, she had a talent for singing and was adopted by musician Tam Den in Cau Dua, District 4 and taught vọng cổ. She first sang at the cải lương troupe Hang Xuan - An Phuoc of Mrs. Bau Sau Dang, at this time she took the stage name Kim Nga. Later, she joined the troupe of famous singer Ut Tra On and changed her name to Hong Nga.
She left her mark in many cai luong plays such as Doi Co Luu, Tieng ho song song of the Hau River, Lan and Diep, Tinh anh ban chieu, Luoi troi, Mat em la bien oan cuu, Duyen kiep...
