Arriving at the shore of Tay An Vinh village, Tinh Ky commune on the morning of November 4, we saw dozens of small fishing boats (fishermen often call them boats) racing to shore. On the boats were nets full of fish. Having just removed the fish, fisherman Tran Van Hau, in Tay An Vinh village, shared that there were a lot of fish stuck to the nets today, so I called 2 more people to come down and remove the nets. I removed the big fish first and brought them to the market to sell early for a good price, while I slowly removed the small fish and sold them later. In total, after more than 4 hours at sea, I earned more than 1 million VND.

Fishermen in Tinh Ky commune (Quang Ngai city) have a good income thanks to exploiting catfish.

About 200m away, the fishing boat of fisherman Le Khanh, in Tinh Ky commune, gradually approached the shore, joy clearly visible on the face of this experienced fisherman. “Normally, after collecting the net, I would be on the boat removing the fish and putting them in a bucket before pulling them ashore to sell to my customers. However, these past few days there have been a lot of fish stuck to the net, so I collected the net, put it in a basket and pulled it ashore and mobilized my relatives to come down and remove the fish to sell in time for the market. On average, I earn 500,000 - 700,000 VND per day from catching fish. On lucky days like today, I earn a few million VND,” fisherman Khanh shared.

In Tay An Vinh village, Tinh Ky commune, there are dozens of families who mainly live by fishing along the coast, so they always wait for the tide in the rough sea season to go "hunting" for catfish. Because in the rough sea season, catfish often come ashore to hide and find food, so casting nets is more convenient, without having to go far. With the current price ranging from 20,000 to 60,000 VND/kg of catfish (depending on the type), each person who goes fishing can earn at least 700,000 to 1 million VND/netting trip.

According to fishermen, in recent days, there have been more catfish than usual, so almost every boat has a good income. There are three types of catfish: horizontal catfish, segmented catfish, and sucking catfish. Although small, catfish are very delicious, especially those caught close to shore. Of these, sucking catfish has the highest value, at times selling for up to 90,000 VND/kg.

The luggage for a trip to the sea near the shore of fishermen is also very simple, just need woven nets - the type of net specialized in catching catfish and a small boat to be able to practice. The time for fishermen to drop the net is usually from 3, 4 am to 7, 8 am to reach the shore to remove the fish. Catfish season usually appears from September to December of the lunar calendar, bringing a good income for fishermen along the coast of Tinh Ky commune.
