Determination of Vietnam futsal team
The futsal teams of Vietnam and Thailand have entered the semi-finals one round early thanks to winning all 9 points after 3 matches. Therefore, the match between the two teams at 6pm today (November 6) will only determine the top team in the group. While Vietnam defeated Malaysia (2-0), Timor Leste (4-1) and Brunei (14-0), Thailand also easily scored 23 goals against the three teams in the same group to temporarily take the number one position (above Vietnam in goal difference).
The Thai futsal team has the upper hand with 8 wins in the last 9 matches. The "War Elephants" are also a giant in the Southeast Asian playground, having won 16 out of 9 times. However, coach Diego Raul Giustozzi and his team are not discouraged.
Vietnam futsal team (red shirts) played extremely well.
Against a strong opponent, the Vietnamese futsal team chose to play a game of knowing themselves and their opponents. Mr. Giustozzi's students played solidly in the first minutes, before Pham Van Tu's net suddenly shook after a kick from Nguyen Thinh Phat. From an attack by ala from Thailand in the 5th minute, the ball was crossed into the box. Thinh Phat retreated to help clear the ball, but accidentally scored an own goal, with a foul that did not give Van Tu a chance to intercept.
Despite conceding a goal, the Vietnamese futsal team was not discouraged. Pham Duc Hoa and his teammates continued to press high, putting pressure from Thailand's home field to prevent the opponent from developing the ball. Coach Giustozzi's students' ball development was also relatively good, when the ala and pivo moved diversely, creating attacks close to the Thai goal.
In the 11th and 12th minutes, Nhan Gia Hung and Duc Hoa shot dangerously from afar, but the Thai goalkeeper played well to neutralize them. However, the pressure from the Vietnamese futsal team eventually brought an equalizer. In the 12th minute, taking advantage of a corner kick from his teammate, Duc Hoa moved cleverly to cut in front of a Thai player, then finished extremely quickly to tie the score 1-1.
The Vietnamese futsal team played well in the last 5 minutes of the first half with constant pressure. In the 14th minute, Thai Huy dribbled the ball into the middle and then shot with his left foot, hitting the post. On the contrary, Thailand also attacked sharply, but goalkeeper Van Tu jumped to save the goal.
Spectacular comeback
As the semi-final was very close, Coach Giustozzi did not risk sending out the main team, but used a combination of teams to keep the pillars. Many backup players such as Pham Van Tu, Nhan Gia Hung, Nguyen Da Hai were shown, in which Van Tu played extremely well with situations of diving to save the goal quickly.
Thailand exerts suffocating pressure
The Vietnamese futsal team opened the way to the Thai goal, but the quality of Giustozzi's students' finishing is still a question mark. In the 31st minute, Chau Doan Phat shook the ball past his opponent, but the shot was too powerful and inaccurate. Doan Phat's free kick a few seconds later also went wide.
Having a good attacking game, the Vietnamese futsal team unexpectedly conceded a goal in the 32nd minute. Young talent Da Hai lost the ball, creating conditions for Thailand to press and steal the ball and score, raising the score to 2-1.
However, the Vietnamese futsal team did not give up. In the 34th minute, Dinh Cong Vien took advantage of a mistake by the Thai goalkeeper to score a close-range goal to tie the score at 2-2. Continuing the momentum, Mr. Giustozzi's students raised the score to 3-2 ten seconds later. Da Hai made up for his mistake with a kick to the second post for Cong Vien to finish cleverly, raising the score to 3-2 for Vietnam.
Thailand played power-play in the last 6 minutes, but could not find an equalizer. Vietnam's defense played solidly to protect Van Tu's goal.
Defeating Thailand for the first time in 10 years, the futsal team entered the semi-finals with the top spot and a perfect record. The Vietnam Football Federation awarded the team 400 million VND.
