(CLO) Thousands of protesters against a series of President Donald Trump's policies took to the streets across the United States on Monday, including a large demonstration outside the US Capitol building.
Protesters called Mr Trump a “king” on Presidents Day, denouncing his moves to fire thousands of federal employees, dismiss prosecutors and eliminate independent government watchdogs.

On Saturday, Mr. Trump tweeted a variation on a quote often attributed to French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte: “He who saves his country breaks no law,” suggesting he was unconcerned about concerns that his actions might violate the law.
“No king, no crown, we will not back down,” protesters chanted as they gathered on the National Mall, just a few hundred yards from the US Capitol.
Many anti-Trump protesters used patriotic symbols to express their views. They waved flags, wore heart-shaped earrings and wore American flag beanies.
Protester Morris said he was deeply troubled by Trump’s policies, including removing transgender people from the military and removing information about them from government websites. He also expressed concern that protections for same-sex marriage could be next.
“There is nothing more patriotic than fighting tyranny,” said Kat Duesterhaus, a protester from Miami. “We are here because we are patriots.”
